My wife and I started out with a big challenge for David (to turn the eyesore of the neighborhood into a place that we would be happy to call home), and he rose to the occasion and then some. “Ian Johnston has done an excellent job of designing and serving as the on -going architect for a project at our beach community. This project is now in its 4th and final year, covering 8 condominium buildings. His architecture drawings were thorough and were the basis for contractor bidding; He remained involved to inspect the stages of completion in each building. He participated in a process where he met with the facility manager and the general contractor project manager weekly. This enabled the establishment of a punch list each week of items to be resolved and ensure that a high level of quality was maintained throughout the project.”

“Yes, We used Michael McLeod for a beautiful beach home that we are building. We liked the plan that was a standard plan and then added some modifications. He accommodated our changes and worked with us on all parts of the design. We liked the plan since it had some unusual design elements and was different than any other one we had seen. He was able to more quickly modify the plan versus other architect which would have cost the same or more to change another plan. We needed to move fast at one point and he made it in time. He was licensed for the beach which our builder needed and the town accepted. He seemed expensive but I think these changes would have cost just as much anywhere. The cost of the original plan was appropriate I thought. Overall, it is working out as expected and will be a dream home for us.”

“Michael Kersting architecture is marvelous on all counts. There are designer / architects, but Michael is a true artist able to work in any style, bring it to the twenty first centurry and impress a special flair. It is interesting when all the workers on a job say if they could they would have him design something for them as the designs have something very special. He is easy to work with, listens to you, helps guide you to a plan that fits you and yet pushes you to expansive visions. The staff are all very complimentary in skills and talent. They kept us out of potential trouble many times. As one who has been involved in many building projects I would say anyone considering anyone else in WIlmington as their archidect needs to reconsider and look more closely at Kersting architecure, the best in Wilmington and possibley the state. Unigue and truly creative designs with impressive followup and I rarely give recommendations.”

We wanted it to feel like an old, well-loved farmhouse, a place of welcome refuge - where there was space for everyone but not cavernous - and we were starting with an empty field as the canvas. “After putting together our wish list and considering designing our house ourselves, my wife and I did some looking and decided to purchase plans for the Island Cottage from Southern Cottages. This design had all the features we wanted. We are self-building not contracting the construction. Construction is not my profession. I was sure I'd have to do a lot of research to get it right. The quality and accuracy of the plans have sure made it easier than I expected. The design went through the permitting process without a hitch. (The building official even commented on how the plans facilitated his review.) As for customer service, I can't say enough about the positive experience I've had. I thought that once I had the plans in hand that would be the last interaction I'd have with the architect. Not so. Mike and his staff have kept in touch with me, and I with them. When a couple of questions came up that I thought would be best answered by them, I sent an email. Within a short time, I got the answers I needed. The main house is now framed in, and we're ready to start the wrap-around porch. Overall, I've found our experience with Southern Cottages to be exceptional and the plans were a great value for the price.”
