After the initial referral, I was attracted to SDG because of the variety of home design styles shown on their website. I didn't want my project to be pigeonholed as a "type". I wanted my design professional to be open-minded and easy to work with, and I definitely found that in Eric Terry. He is one of the most easy-going people I have ever worked with, but at the same time he gets things done. The process was simple and fun, and we got everything we wanted even though some of it required both Eric and our builder to think outside the box. It turned out to be a bit of a complicated project, but you never would have known it from Eric's attitude. His firm took everything in stride. We also utilized Sounddesign's interior design specialist, Kirsten, for some interior help. She was similarly delightful and easy to work with, even within my budget constraints and my desire to do most things on my own. The finished project is beautiful, and we had a great time during the design and build process. I cannot recommend these folks highly enough.”

Stig has the unique ability to diffuse a situation where the individuals disagree on a particular issue, to move beyond this point until the two have had an opportunity to discuss their views and then later he will remember to readdress this issue. Stig manages to keep the project moving forward when dealing with county officials who give vague guidelines by requesting specific details of what they will and will not accept. He is an effective advocate for your project and provides an excellent set of drawings for you and your builder to help eliminate unexpected costly and time consuming change orders His kind and gentle manner is well suited for any client, yet strength and knowledge arm him for county regulatory rhetoric. “Simon Little (Studio STL) is the architect we chose for our remodel. We didn’t come to him with a simple project, either – it’s the comprehensive remodel of a 3,200 square foot barn-style building we’re converting to a beautiful, single family residence. The previous owners were going in a remodel direction we felt didn’t suit the house or its location. Simon’s design gives our house the functionality and style it was lacking. It isn’t often you find an architect with his level of creativity balanced with budget-conscious judgment. “Peter Schionning of SOS Design was retained by us to provide plans for a partial basement renovation complete with a new bathroom[shower/bath,toilet,vanity and linen storage] as well as a laundry facility and storage space. . From start to finish, and in spite of this being a small project,Peter was very helpful in presenting a range of options for utilizing the basement space as efficiently and cost consciously as possible. There were height and plumbing issues which had significant cost implications ,but with Peters long experience, we got the necessary approvals As well, from previous projects in the house,Peter referred us to various trades who provided first class service and even surprised our contractor who ended up using them. From a design perspective ,Peter helped guide us through a myriad of choices from tiles to toilets, from high end to less expensive and explained the relative advantages of each. “My partner and I were introduced to Kyla through our realtor and friend after we bought a brand new, nice but WAY too beige house. We are so happy and feel so lucky to have been able to work with her to create what is our perfect house. We were very hesitant at first because designing and decorating are so far removed from what we do and what we even wanted to do with a new house. Moreover, our past experience working with a designer was not very positive. So, we entered into it very cautiously, letting Kyla know we were nervous and didn't really have a solid understanding of what we wanted or how she could help. Honestly, it could not have turned out better! She knew perfectly how to work with us to understand who we are, the type of lifestyle and style we have, and the types of spaces we wanted in our new home. She really incorporated us into our new home. For example, my partner has a Masters in Astrophysics and is obsessed with astronomy (dark matter, nebulae, etc). So, she had a local artist create an amazing set of paintings to hang on our 35 foot wall, which she painted this beautiful, night sky blue. It is incredible! She also really worked with me to create a bedroom that is a sanctuary where I can read, relax and look at the clouds (on my amazing cloud wallpaper she sourced from an artist in France). We are not only happy with the result, but the process. She came to us each meeting completely prepared with ideas, room layouts, drawings, materials...everything required for us to make decisions. When we couldn't find what we wanted locally, she sourced it from out of town or through local artists and wood workers. More often than not, the items she designed and had created were better than what we could have purchased. For example, we liked this living room table that we found online but felt it wasn't quite right. So, she designed one herself and working with a local woodworker/carpenter they created the most amazing and adaptable coffee table. We hope to be able to work with Kyla again on our next house or cabin. Her style, professionalism, personality and good humour made the whole process not only easy, but fun.”
