We like the mix of wood, concrete, glass and steel. It still feels airy and light, which is amazing. We also like the big airy stairwell in the center, which reminds us of your suggestion of having one single internal stairwell that is easy to access from the outside as well as inside.

We both think this is gorgeous. Just the right amount of wood to warm it up without actually having a ton of wood on the exterior. Love the look of the concrete and large glass panels, and the black metal horizontal beams. It looks open and airy. And all the elements hang together really nicely.
