The homeowners of this 80 year old home loved the character of the existing home but felt the overall space was just not sufficient for their young and growing family. They wanted to maintain the traditional feel of the home but desperately needed more space, especially a new more efficient Kitchen and a cozy Family Room where they could all spend time together.
We decided to add onto the rear of the existing home thereby creating space for a lovely & functional new Kitchen with an adjoining Family Room complete with a wood burning fireplace, just the spaces they were looking for. This truly is the focal point of the home, as the warmth and comfort of this space can be felt throughout the entire home. Keeping the original formal Living and Dining Rooms in the same location but adding new windows and period detailing made these spaces more livable will retaining its character.
On the rear of the second floor, both existing & new addition, space was used to create a Master Suite with a stunning Ensuite. The existing areas of the second floor benefited from a complete makeover with new fixtures and finishing's.
Renovating older homes is always a challenge and this project was no different. Creative solutions were needed to ensure a seamless visual look from new to old as well as dealing with several challenging structural issues. New energy efficient windows, new hot water on demand & boiler systems as well as a heat recovery unit are just a few of the “Green” upgrades.
