One Light, 14 Homes: Tom Dixon's Beat Collection
Inspired by Indian cooking and water vessels, this pendant series fits in anywhere in the world
Self-taught British designer Tom Dixon’s Beat series is one of the most replicated lighting designs in the past decade. Launched in 2007 – it celebrates its tenth anniversary this year – each pendant is made from hand-beaten brass using traditional Indian craftsmanship. Inspired by “the sculptural simplicity of brass cooking pots and traditional water vessels on the subcontinent”, these lights are made in Moradabad, Northern India. There are four shapes, known as Fat, Wide, Stout, and Tall, which are formed through spinning by hand.
