She was just that good that I felt compelled to use her for each space in our house. It has become our inside joke that each time she comes over I end up asking her about another room which leads to another project. “My husband and I finally bought our "Dream House". Built in 1922 it had everything we were looking for but my main requirement was that it was "old". I had visions of restoring it to its glory days! I had carried around a file titled "Old House" for years with pictures of ideas and furniture that I knew I wanted to incorporate into our house. We were only going to redo one bathroom, well maybe two. But as we admired our beautiful old girl, we knew she was worthy of an entire renovation. We had a few rules: update but respect the period in which she was built. And we had to keep the original floors and windows! I needed a decorator/designer who could incorporate my ideas and dreams, in a very tight timeframe, without it losing our ideas and influence. I interviewed several: some could not work within the timeframe, one thought I was too strong-willed and bossy, one didn't think I knew what I was doing. Kelly Johnson said "When do we get started?". It was a fabulous project and experience and became a wonderful friendship. She reined me in when I wanted too much glitz and had just as much respect for the house as I did. It was a perfect match! And it is, no doubt, the prettiest house in Saint Louis/Clayton area. After all, we have couples who leave their picture, name and number several times a month with a letter that says, "if you ever think of selling your house, please call us." “Over the past 5 years, Stephanie has helped me turn our 120 Victorian into a beautiful home. We started with the entrance hallway which she persuaded me to wallpaper - an idea that hadn't occurred to me. And she was right - it looks wonderful! She also chose light fixtures and arranged the artwork. We then moved on to the master bedroom - wallpaper and window treatments, paint and window treatments in the two other bedrooms, window treatments in the living room, dining room and kitchen, fixtures and window treatments in the second bathroom, and furniture placement, decorative touches and art placement for the whole house. No two rooms are the same, but with carefully selected colors and repeated themes, they complement each other and present an atmosphere of elegance and harmony. It was a joy to work with Stephanie because she really listened to my ideas and was tireless in working with me until we found the perfect item or design to for each project.
