“From the time we first met Scott in person, we felt completely confident in his abilities to help us design our first home. Scott was extremely personable and made us feel at ease throughout the entire process, which was no easy feat since we have little experience with the home design process. He is very knowledgeable in Michigan code and energy-efficient homes and made some great suggestions on how we could increase the R value of the house, which was very important to us. He offered advice about which type of insulation to use, what windows would be most cost-effective yet eco-friendly and how geothermal could be used in our home. He also pointed out some flaws in the floor plan we brought as inspiration and helped us design a well thought out, functional layout that will for our family for years to come. On the exterior, he offered many ideas on how to give a new build some character and make it feel inviting. Scott delivered our plans very quickly and when we had revisions, they were done promptly. When we decided to change the roof pitch to add more head space to the second story of our cape cod, he called to discuss truss design and potential increased home costs to ensure we were making the best decision. I would highly recommend Scott to anyone looking for a passionate, talented architect that has your best interests in mind. He is prompt, professional and detail oriented and his plans were outstanding. Our house will be built over the next 9 months and I cannot wait to see his vision come to life!”

“We worked with Stan Monroe to design and build our home on land we had purchased several years earlier. Stan listened as we discussed how we wanted our home to work, and designed a floor plan that met our expectations in the contemporary style that we liked and that took into considerations the features of the lot on which the house was to be built. Interesting design features were incorporated as the design of the house evolved, and the result is a wonderful family home that is beautiful, comfortable and welcoming to guests. Any elements that exceeded budget were our own choices, and deadlines were met throughout the process. Some of my favorite design features are the ceilings, curved walls and the custom glass front door that Stan designed. He insisted that a glass door was the best choice for the front of out house. We did not like the front of the house being wide open to the street. Stan designed a sand-blasted pattern on the glass in the door that gave us privacy, and added a beautiful design element that echoed the other curves in the house. We have been in our home for 16 years and still love the design. The entire process was a pleasure.”

She was very easy to communicate with, very personable, and very open to collaborating with me on design ideas. I know that the clients on this project spoke very highly of Dawn as well. “My husband and I originally worked with Brad and Theresa Angelini in 1991 when we bought our home. We did a whole house renovation. In addition to detailed architectural drawings they provided three dimensional models showing what the home would look like after the renovation. It was an absolute delight to work with them and a major plus to work with a husband and wife team. Over the years we have worked with them several more times on various projects including expansion of a room through an exterior wall, redoing the deck, roof, and siding, adding additional windows to the home, etc. Each time they have been wonderful to work with. Brad and Theresa are very thoughtful, creative, responsive, practical, genial, and professional. We highly recommend them.”

“Nothing but praise for Helman Sechrist Architecture: we are in a home we couldn’t even dream of (better than a ‘dream home’) - designed by Helman Sechrist! We had a design challenge - leaving behind two homes that we loved, and combining into 1 new home that would accommodate my family (husband and 3 kids) and my mom, ensuring space for everyone and universal accessibility. We looked at a few homes in our area, then we spent months looking at plans, and realized that nothing pre-drawn was going to work for our family. From my first conversation with Jeff Helman, I was confident that he understood our unique situation - he agreed that we would need to start from scratch. I realize now that this is how they design all their homes - designing spaces around the needs and wants of their clients, spaces that function perfectly and are beautiful! The journey was amazing - their process ensures they are aware of all the functions you want to accomplish in your home - before any plans are drawn. We met extensively with Jeff and Brad (Sechrist), they were alway patient and a pleasure to work with even when we were not at our best - ( imagine how hard a project is to coordinate between two people - then add a mom / mother-in-law to that mix). The staff at Helman Sechrist was there for us throughout the project - They helped us with the bidding process, helped us pick the right builder, made sure that the house was on the lot where it should be, and even talked us through the inevitable rough spots. I cannot express how much we love our new space, how perfectly it is working for us. The spaces that we are living in are just the right size, very spacious - but still cozy; never cavernous or cold. If you want a house that fits your family and your needs - not a house that you have to fit into - Helman Sechrist is well worth the investment.”

“My husband and I have followed Michael Klement, the Principal at Architectural Resource, at the Ann Arbor home shows and remodeling tours for years. His passion for the work he does is evident in everything he does, and is delightful to listen to during his tours. We've visited every home that has been open for tours and no two are alike. His talent is so broad - from respecting a classic Italianate design, to creating a found-art energy efficient modern masterpiece. He excels at listening to what the customer is looking for and delivering perfection. He blends brilliant design with smart, efficient, architectural engineering. After years of dreaming of what Michael could do for us, we were finally in a position to consider hiring him. He met us at our home and talked with us about our "ultimate vision of living". We can see how this approach could lead to the perfect personalized homes that we had toured. He walked us through the design process and laid out an estimate for pricing. After the meeting I was so energized and excited that it took 2 hours to fall asleep (it was way past my bedtime!). Ultimately, we couldn't find a piece of empty property with the location / features we wanted for a price that would allow us to build new with Michael. So we purchased a home with "potential" and are saving up for the chance to do a remodel/rebuild with him on this property. We wouldn't dream of working with anyone else.”

“Connie is an outstanding architect. She has many strengths as an architect and is particularly gifted at reshaping areas that are ill designed. There were many design flaws in our home, and Connie produced clever ideas to resolve these issues and create a beautiful living space. She also excels at solving problems on the fly. There were many instances where what we found under the walls was not what was on the original blueprints. Connie was quick to respond to these issues and come up with brilliant, cost effective solutions in a short amount of time. She also has elegant taste and did an outstanding job designing the exterior siding of our home, as well as all the interior trim. Connie is very easy to get along with and has been a pleasure to do business with. I highly recommend Connie. She’s fabulous!”
