The brief was to open up the ground floor to let in more natural light, and to make more efficient use of the living space. Studio AWA spent a significant amount of time at the outset of the project speaking to us to better understand our desired outcome and getting an understanding of our style preferences. This time was invaluable as it allowed Studio AWA to suggest ideas that we had not considered and which had a huge impact on the finished product. This included enlarging and adding additional windows, and inserting large sliding glass doors at the rear of the house. We were given regular updates on progress throughout. We are really happy with the finished product which has met the objectives of our brief and gone some way beyond. With features such as secret compartments with swivelling covers or open porthole so they can see each other, talk and pass items over. “We bought the flat above ours in the tenement we live in, and we asked Studio DuB to redesign the joint double-flat from scratch, and then to project manage this, bringing in builders and other contractors they knew and trusted. They were superb in leading this from the outset to the finish, and we are really delighted with the results. “I highly recommend David who designed and supervised the best conversion of a dark downstairs chicane of walk-in cupboards to a bright airy corridor, one side of which is floor to ceiling storage cubicles, with laundry room and a shower room on the opposite side. He listened to all our requests and had suggestions to suit all our requirements. We were also pleased with his recommendation of builder and that he could supervise the job. We were delighted from start to finish. A real professional !”

“We selected Martin and Louise from Urban Creatures to design and manage the build of our house because we liked their portfolio and found that they understood our brief. As a result, the design process of the house did not take long and they provided many good ideas. Obtaining planning permission for our house was quite problematic, but Urban Creatures were very professional in dealing with the planning department. Despite them working to our budget, the quotes from the builders were at least 1/3 above our budget, which led to some changes and omissions. But at least that saved us from a lot of nasty surprises once the building work started. Urban Creatures supervised the whole building process and we had fortnightly meetings with both Urban Creatures and the builder to discuss progress and issues. Again, this was done in a very professional manner. Overall, we are very happy with the service provided by Urban Creatures. We would recommend them to others and would not hesitate to use them again.”

“I contacted three builders about getting an estimate for a loft conversion and only one got back to me. He recommended a local architect and everything moved swiftly and smoothly from there. The design of the upgrade to my 1850s end terrace cottage grew hands and feet but was never allowed to go crazy because of the sensible heads in charge. The joiner/builder and architect complemented each other and I am left with a property, the beauty of which was summed up in one question put to me by the joiner. "Is there anything you would change?" I answered that there is nothing I would change. Everybody who has been here since has complemented the design. Early on the knowledge and experience was evident in abundance from Lucas Dow Design Studios. The vision of an architect is something you pay for. I maintain my position - I would not change anything. The inside, which is not shown in the photos provided, is the triumph.”
