“Alethea is amazing! She was an integral part of the team when we remodeled our entire basement, renovated our kitchen and added a large porch in the front of our home. She was the key person to help select all of the interior selections and after the work was completed, assisted in the interior furnishings as well. We did a second project with her as well. We added a laundry room that is the envy of my neighborhood. She designed and drew up all of the plans and worked well with all of the subs. Many friends have seen her work in my home and have hired her as well- both to help in structural changes as well as interior work. They all have been happy. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is true to her word, very organized and keeps you informed throughout the project. These are rare qualities. I am happy to talk with anyone who has any questions. Thanks!”

“When we hired David Lund to design our kitchen, new bathroom and new mudroom, we weren't sure what to expect. We had never undertaken such a large remodeling project before and we were overwhelmed with getting the layout exactly right and incorporating all the "little extras" we wanted in our dream kitchen. David took a pile of tear sheets that we'd saved, listened intently to our desires and concerns, and came back with plans that were so complete that even our contractor commented they were the best plans he'd ever worked with. What's more, David's suggestions for design picks completely changed the way we think about making choices for our home. He opened our eyes to options (hello, green penny tile!) that we would have never considered, and made us become better home decorators. He also retained the integrity of our nearly 100-year-old home by making countless choices that are consistent with its design period. “David and his team provide an outstanding level of expertise and service. We hired them to help us figure out how to slowly renovate our 100 year old home, and they helped us identify what was important to us, develop a mission statement for how we approach renovations, and then they collaborated with a team of contractors and vendors to put together a comprehensive book describing our home, its current condition, what needs repairs, and how much those repairs would cost. They also included several options for the areas that we are interested in remodeling down the road. We have also used them to pick out and install window treatments that respect the heritage of the house. They are certainly not the cheapest option out there, but they cannot be beat in terms of excellence and expertise!”

“Our project, which took approximately 3 1/2 months from start to completion, included both a kitchen and basement remodel. Anchor Builders recommended that we use Fluidesign for our design work. Fluidesign did the layout and consulted with us on all phases of the project. They were available and helpful at every phase of construction. In addition to producing an excellent floor plan, they assisted with major and minor decisions including selection of appliances, cabinets, lighting fixtures, carpeting, paint colors, etc. All the options available would have been very overwhelming without their help. The design team was always attentive. Shelly and Carrie helped us transfer concepts into reality. “We just completed construction on our new home in the White Bear Lake, MN area. We had been looking for a tear down opportunity on a nearby lake for a couple years, and when a property presented itself, we quickly sprung into action. We have identified our builders in advance (Sustainable9) and based on our vision for the home, they introduced us to Unfold Architecture. Their previous projects, both out West and here in MN, fit the mountain modern/Minnesota modern style we were seeking. From the get go, the team at Unfold were amazing partners. Through conversations and inspiration photos we shared on Houzz, they took our long wish list (maximized lake views, lower level walkout, modern but welcoming, mid-century influences) and designed the perfect house. Their houses are striking architecturally but also extremely livable and functional. They use state of the art CAD models to help you envision what the home would look like. It’s remarkable how close the house turned out in respect to the early renderings. And throughout the process, they were collaborative partners, incorporating feedback from both us and our builders, presenting us initially with several options and then honing in on our chosen design. We could not be more pleased with the process (even in the midst of Covid challenges) or the end result, which is truly the dream home we envisioned.”

“Jean Rehkamp Larson is talented, patient, articulate, creative, brilliant, practical, systematic and delightful. We live in a 1908 Farmhouse in Minnesota, which we purchased 14 years ago. We made very few improvements during those years. Our 3 kids were in school and then starting college and life was too busy. I knew we eventually would get to updating and remodeling our home so I kept looking for possible architects. Jean wrote the book "Farmhouse Book". I immediately realized that she understood the elements that I wanted to preserve and maintain, yet update to make more livable and comfortable for our expanding family, as kids come home with partners and maybe eventually grandchildren. This project is 2+ years in the works mainly because of unforeseen surprises behind the walls i.e. lead pipes, extension cords in the wall used for electricity, porch walls that were structurally unsound and could not pass inspection as well as the increased expenses because of those surprises that required refinancing and prioritizing. As well as decision making difficulties between 2 very stubborn people. :) We are coming into our final push to finish the kitchen, cabinets and trim work. We have remodeled the upstairs bathroom, we have moved the kitchen back to its original location from its 1970s tacky remodel to incorporate a bathroom on the main floor, Put in a main floor handicap accessible bathroom, wrap around porch, new entryway, sunroom off the kitchen, geothermal heating and cooling.”

“I hired Hart's Design to design an addition to my home in Edina. This included a garage, workshop, master bath, roof deck, laundry/mudroom expansion. sunroom, and kitchen expansion. Admittedly, I am a very particular/difficult client. Generally, I am not satisfied with anyone I hire and usually consider it successful if the interaction does not end in the exchange of profanity. I know this about myself and tell people this prior to working with them. I have never offered to serve as a reference for any contractor or designer in the past. Robert was excellent. He took our ideas, added his expertise and brought it to life. He was responsive and timely and the rates were very reasonable. He delivered exactly what he said he would. I particularly liked that I could work with him to create a design/blueprints that we liked. I was then able to take these detailed plans and get bids from a number of contractors rather than being tied to a single design/build firm. This was some of the best money we spent on our addition. I would recommend Hart's Design without reservation.”
