“It has been a great experience working with Matt, I have called him with big and small questions throughout the process and he has either been able to answer them on the spot or quickly get back to me with a response. He was able to fit everything I hoped for into my 700sq/ft garage/ADU project and I am excited to see it come to life!”

“I connected with John to help restore our newly-purchased 1967 single-floor ranch cottage in Portland, OR. Even during our first interaction, John had a calm, approachable demeanor, and listen thoroughly to my design ideas. He followed through on listening with strong visualization through 3D renderings that made me feel as if I was standing in my home, before we even began construction. His realistic renderings helped us make some necessary design changes to improve the flow of the layout before investing in construction, which ended up being a massive cost-saving for us. Throughout the schematic design, design development, and construction documents phases, John had fantastic communication and was on time, even early, with his deliverables. We will 1000% utilize spacehouse's services again for our next home design project!”

Departure l Architecture

Puntuación media: 5 de 5 estrellas4 de abril de 2015
“Departure came out to our property after the 2013 Build-It-Green tour and talked to us about potential of building an ADU. A year later, we decided to move forward with building an ADU and again, contacted Dan Lajoie. He came out to our property with the notes and ideas discussed the previous year and was willing to spend a long time discussing our hopes for our ADU. He was able to take our ideas and create a beautiful space that works perfectly for us and our property. Throughout the beginning of the process Dan was available to answer our questions, he spent time sharing pictures and showing us ideas as well as meeting with us regularly to look at his progress. He always took our perspective into account and reworked some of the drafts to ensure we were getting what we wanted; but he also had fantastic ideas that we had not thought of and did a great job inserting his personal character into the project. Overall, we have been really impressed with Dan's patience and his ability to turn a small space into something so functional and beautiful.”
Nathan Good Architects PC

“Nathan Good is an excellent architect. He is extremely experienced. He listens well and he explains well. He works well with other professionals because he has a broad understanding of all fields associated with building and remodeling a home and he is an excellent communicator. He has great taste for all styles even though he specializes in green architecture, but it is his judgment, his vision and his wisdom that puts him apart from other architects with whom we have worked. One conversation with Nathan and we knew we had found our guide.”

Anderson Shirley Architects

Puntuación media: 5 de 5 estrellas26 de febrero de 2015
“We hired Anderson Shirley Architects to design our new residence for our retirement, and work with our contractor during the construction phase of the project. John Shirley was the firm's principal in charge of our project. We first met John and Karl when they came to our rural building site to check it out and talk to us about the site and its relationship to the kind of house we had in mind. They talked about the land, how to design a home that would work with the land and surrounding countryside, about designing a house with both indoor and outdoor rooms that would bring the outside in, and ways we could ensure a light filled house, a plus for Oregon's grey winter days. They were reading our minds on these issues. We concluded they were not only anticipating our concerns, but that they would be open to the kind of participation in the design process we wanted. We were not disappointed. We worked with them over two years on the design for a modern 2,800 square foot home, with lots of light and real integration with the land. We were as involved as we wished to be. The design process took two years because that was our timeline, working with John and Karl from another state before we moved to Oregon, and we wanted to go slowly. Construction took another year. Our time lines and budget were met. We really enjoyed working with John and Karl. They have breadth and lots of talent, and their people skills helped us work through the inevitable challenges that arise during the construction phase of a complicated building project. We very much recommend them to others. Photos of our home are shown on the Anderson Shirley website under Northwest Modern Rural Residence.”
