9.0 Hinge House
wow block can look cool
double height w/mezzanine
polycarbonate, interior
green polycarbonate wall on different house (same architect)
green polycarbonite from inside
green polycarbonite wall
translucent stair made with Lexan and steel studs
twin volumes with flat connector
again, lower level open stud cavities? Here the 2x6 studs horizontally braced with regular 2x8s creating both shelving and rhythm
so the ceiling framing helps warm this high volume--but krikey a space is big when it's double story. Not loving the feel. . . .
continuous roof plane (inside to out)? Also floor e.g.
"skip" sheathing in open roof. AND note the chimney pipe exploding up through interior space.
basement walls interior, with concrete foundation halfway up then open framing (if all insulation is rigid foam on exterior)?
holy exposed framing! (This poss if insulation on exterior everywhere)
same wall, but closed
forget kitchen in pic--this is sim to stair on south wall, with mel desk where kitchen is here, then upper-floor 90-degree turn to create mezzanine library (but all would be flipped in our situ, with stair rising from left to right). Note bookshelves on staircase, wall, too, ovviomente.
slimmest of hanging mezzanines--for library?
does this help us think about high walls, balconies, etc.?
um, two volumes with connector--but doesn't suggest hinge or even connection, really. . . .
more view & wind control with large hinged shutters
pergola hung from wall beside walk to entry (and after passing through courtyard gate)
schema with volumes + connective breezeways
two volumes with connector (bridge), tho here connector is intended to blend instead of stand out
raised shed volume profiled with low flat volumes flanking
opposing STEEP shed volumes with connector (this time an external bridge; imagine if enclosed)
shed with deep overhangs on all sides plus lower flat protrusion/connector
transverse shed volumes with low flat connector
shed w/more generous overhang on pitched elevation
e.g. of steepish shed and the triangular high wall it creates at gable ends. (In our case, long rectangular wall on high wise would be mezzanine library)
check this proj for poss e.g. of sheds with low connector breezeways
what if both volumes take matching sheds and suggest sawtooth profile?
polycarbonate! (Or, if Solo has had successful IPO, Kalwall!) . . . for eastern side of LR volume, up high? Or south of same, fronting stair?
OK, so there IS sortofa hinge thingee here--two volumes separated by covered passage in this case. But also: Herbst, same project as before, opposite side. All about layering, layering, layering.
ok so it's australia. still: gabion walls, wood-slat cladding that turns transparent when deployed without underlayer, tall casements, extended jams around corner window creating both visor and sill. Herbst Architects. Worthy.
superb privacy/view shutters. We could make these with repurposed slats from deck or even salvaged lathe.
corrugated metal roof over entry
wood (B&B) opposite horizontal galvalume
materials combo: cement board panels (blue), corrugated metal, cedar, block--plus proud-framed windows
e.g. of shallow gabled roof with low-slope sub-roof extension
cantilever detail
streetside protrusion *could* be done with shallow shed instead of flat roof, i suppose. . . .
another thick/thin, with stone below galvalume this time
low flat protrusion (in this case a garage) in front of higher gabled volumes
another entry pergola built against wall on one side
thick wall (gorgeous stone that somehow manages to be both modern and rustic) and thin wall
option for entry: stained b&b with this almost Asian sense of handling.
