My ideas
Like: The arcade games. Dislike: These wouldn't be the types of games I would want. I would want something more age-appropriate. Also, these would be too big and expensive. Any games would need to be repairable at a reasonable cost. Having a large, broken, "out-of-order" pinball machine in the middle of the room would not send a great message.
Like: What's not to like. For me, this one is a little more symbolic. Everything about this is inviting. It's a nice day in a beautiful location. The furniture and structure look great but they aren't so nice that you're scared to touch them. My office will get abused on a daily basis. It has to withstand the daily wear and still look warm, welcoming, and inviting.
Like: The letters on the wall. I think it would be cool to make my logo our of letters like this. I'm considering the name "KidZone Pediatric Dentistry." It would be cool if the "KidZone"portion was in these letters. I'm open for options on the name, though. To me, it seems like the letters are cool mix of rustic and colorful. The different sizes makes it feel kid-friendly. It's as if a child drew it.
Like: Tasteful presentation of the kid's art. The opportunities this creates for marketing. For example, if I had a coloring-book page made that displayed the dental office or our philanthropy, it would be a cool way to remind people of who we are and who we serve. Dislike: It would have to be a balance of displaying the art while avoiding clutter. There would also need to be an easy way for us to interchange the art as more kids bring it it. We could possibly do this with digital display board that rotated through the pictures. I'm open to suggestions
Like: None Dislike: Clutter, I do not like clutter. In design, this is hard for me. I see the rooms that designers put together and I'm amazing. If it were up to me, I would have empty tables, shelves, etc. I would get rid of all "unnecessary" items. The problem with that is my rooms never look completed haha. It's the finishing touches that I struggle with. In general, I'm a "less-is-more" type person. I want accents and art. I want that "purple cow" that Seth Godin talks about. However, I also want consistency and calm.
Like: None Dislike: If we are going to do this, let's do it right. I'm sure this serves this little girl well, but not my office. The theme is unknown and the graphics are cheap. I would rather just have a painted wall than little, inappropriately-sized accents. While I am very budget-conscious, if the end result if something that looks inconsistent with the theme or incomplete, I won't feel accomplished.
Like: I love the fact that the children are invited to create and use their imaginations. I get really excited when the kids draw a picture for the office. I would love to display their work. It would become the office art and a fun community engagement project. Dislike: The chalkboard. Chalk would like be the way I would want to display their work. Way too dusty and messy.
Like: The colors on the rock climbing wall. Those are the vibrant-types of colors I envision if we choose the Lego Theme. The slide. How cool would that be to have a slide. May not be feasible, but I want to give you guys full reign to have an open-mind. I love the happiness of the kids. Dislike: The rock ledge. I would prefer to avoid sharp, elevated corners. My wife calls me "Mr Safety" haha. I can't help it, the risk worries me.
LIke: The use of color. I like the neutral base so the colors pop. I like that with a neutral palate, we can selectively choose areas to highlight. Which in turn puts more emphasis on the parts of the room I want people to notice. Dislike: Bookshelves= Ladders in a Pedo office. I'd like to avoid climbing hazards
Like: The tone of the flooring. I'm very flexible on this. Overall, I want the tones, grains, and materials that work best for the space. Carpet in the waiting room and LVP or tile in the operatories seems to be common. Dislike: I know flooring can be expensive. We normally budget about $5/sq foot for our installed LVP. I want high quality but I'm very open to your input.
Like: The use of the blue color. I can envision at office where each operatory is a bright color like this. The cabinetry could be bright and high gloss like this. Colors would be blue, green, yellow, red, orange. Dislike: I don't really need the back lighting. Also, I'm not sure how to add the various colors in a cost-effective manner
Likes: I'm adding this because it fits my personal style. I like neutral colors with wood accents, exposed brick, cast iron, leather, etc. Dislike: It's not really the wow factor I'm looking for in a Pedo office. I add this to give you an idea of what my personal style is as well as the difficulty I have designing a colorful space.
Like: The incorporation of the flag. As a veteran-owned business, I would love to add a flag in our design. That could be in the office or a flag pole outside, I'm open to ideas. Also, there is a Medal-of-Honor recipient from my hometown. I would love to dedicate the area/flag to him. Even though none of use knew him (he died in battle in 1944) It's important to me that his memory is celebrated.
