Weilmuenster needed more bathroom storage, so she created a little vanity area in the bedroom. “The vanity was a compact space-saver solution,” she says. “The top drawer opens to extra storage and a mirror, which is a huge plus.” The framed art is original. “I found the A and K vintage lights while thrift-shopping one day,” Weilmuenster says. “They were the last two letters left, so obviously I took it as a sign!” Glamluxe makeup box: Glamboxes; Brimnes vanity: IkeaSee more of this homeMy Houzz is a series in which we visit and photograph creative, personality-filled homes and the people who inhabit them. Lighten up. Velvet curtains often sport dark shades, but this room features a punchier color as part of a design that showcases floral pattern and celebrates the hues of summer blooms and foliage. To get the look, opt for a velvet with a deep pile, like this one, and allow curtains to pool on the floor — another way to bolster a room’s sumptuousness.
Pitts reconfigured the updated guest room by removing closets to make room for two double beds. The board-and-batten walls extend from the living areas into the bedrooms. A wood sunburst mirror hangs on the white wall between the two beds and visually connects to the wood ceiling.Find sunburst-style mirrors
Master bedroom: The master bedroom features a sleeping area and a sitting area, with a partial wall with fireplace dividing the two. French doors in the sleeping area lead out to the backyard. Inspiration for the room’s color scheme came from pieces the couple already had, including the wall art and the rug in the sitting area. The walls had been white for a long time, and the couple decided — with some urging from Blakeney — to enliven them with a dusty pink that brightens the room and ties in with the above-mentioned pieces. 21. Florals make a comeback. This popular print is getting a revival and a bit of an update, say Ott and Simard. Forget low-energy patterns, and think botanical references in high-contrast colors and oversize blooms. “I’m seeing florals making a comeback,” but not the traditional variety, Ott says. “These are bold, graphic floral prints in high-contrast colors such as black and white or teal and gold.”
12. Millwork feature walls and detailing. Shiplap, millwork panels and reclaimed wood boards have been around for a while now. But with affordable big box store options and the relative ease with which the average homeowner is able to DIY these materials as accents, expect to see this trend to continue for some time, especially as bedroom feature walls.
10. Casual and calm modern bedrooms. You can’t decorate your way to a good night’s sleep. In other words, if you’re looking for a calm, relaxing bedroom — ideal for a restful night — you don’t want the space dripping with ornate decor, busy patterns or eye-opening color. Instead, a pared down, verging-on-minimalist look that incorporates soothing neutrals, soft fabrics and simple, functional pieces is the direction homeowners are heading.See the 20 Most Popular Bedrooms of 2017
