Sunspace Design’s principal service area extends along the seacoast corridor from Massachusetts to Maine, but it’s not every day that we’re able to work on a true oceanside project! This gorgeous two-tier conservatory was the result of a collaboration between Sunspace Design, TMS Architects and Interiors, and Architectural Builders. Sunspace was brought in to complete the conservatory addition envisioned by TMS, while Architectural Builders served as the general contractor. The two-tier conservatory is an expansion to the existing residence. The 750 square foot design includes a 225 square foot cupola and stunning glass roof. Sunspace’s classic mahogany framing has been paired with copper flashing and caps. Thermal performance is especially important in coastal New England, so we’ve used insulated tempered glass layered upon laminated safety glass, with argon gas filling the spaces between the panes. We worked in close conjunction with TMS and Architectural Builders at each step of the journey to this project’s completion. The result is a stunning testament to what’s possible when specialty architectural and design-build firms team up. Easy entry to screened-in room from deck. McHugh Architecture designed a unique 3-Seasons Room addition for a family in Brielle, NJ. The home is an old English Style Tudor home. Most old English Style homes tend to have darker elements, where the space can typically feel heavy and may also lack natural light. We wanted to keep the architectural integrity of the Tudor style while giving the space a light and airy feel that invoked a sense of calmness and peacefulness. The space provides 3 seasons of indoor-outdoor entertainment.

Las galerías son especialmente comunes en el norte de España. Cualquiera que haya caminado por A Coruña, por ejemplo, habrá visto fachadas con inmensas cristaleras. La razón es clara: hay que protegerse del frío y en esa ciudad el viento que azota desde el Atlántico es popularmente conocido. De todos modos, una galería no solo protege de las bajas temperaturas, sino que funciona como aislante térmico en general. ¿Qué caracteriza a una galería?

No todos llamamos galería al mismo tipo de espacio, pero sí es cierto que todo aquello considerado por la mayoría como galería cumple ciertas normas. Veamos los elementos principales de estas zonas de estar:
  • Ventanas: a modo de mirador, el vidrio permite la entrada de luz mientras protege de la lluvia y de las temperaturas extremas el resto de la vivienda.
  • Estructura: esta especie de terrazas cubiertas suelen tener una estructura de madera. Las galerías, debido a su ubicación, son alargadas y estrechas, de todos modos, hay gente que considera una galería un espacio más amplio si este está rodeado de ventanales.
  • Temperatura: al tener la función de colchón térmico, el espacio suele ser cálido o frío.
  • Relación con el exterior: desde este espacio existe una conexión más cercana con el entorno. La verdadera ventaja de la galería es sentirte fuera, estando dentro disfrutando de las comodidades del interior.

Decoración de galerías

Todo dependerá de para qué quieras aprovechar esta zona de estar. Si quieres crear un pequeño espacio donde sentarte y relajarte mirando por la ventana, no necesitarás grandes elementos. Eso sí, si estando ahí sientes frío, incorpora artículos que relaciones como fuente de calor. Si por el contrario, sientes calor, añade una fuente o plantas para refrescar el ambiente. Al tratarse de espacios por lo general estrechos, es mejor optar por una decoración no demasiado recargada. Los colores neutros son un buen aliado.
