Custom Couch NYC

Hi! I'm looking to find a couch or have it custom made as I can't seem to find what I want. I'm willing to spend about 4K. An 88-90", bench seat/t-cushion with loose tufted back cushions on a square frame. velvet, track arms. Attached is a picture of the frame/concept I like but want it to tufted back cushions. This couch was $7800 from a small boutique in NYC and I am certain the price is heavily marked-up although the quality was amazing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    It will be difficult to find any custom sofa maker in the NYC area who will build a couch similar to that for under $4k. A decent fabric alone will cost $1200-$1600 for 16 yards, 7-8k is a reasonable quote. If it seemed too good to be true, i.e. 3500-5500, it probably is. We use ERA Interiors for all of our custom sofa/ upholstery needs and they pretty much always beat the high end store prices with better fabrics and higher quality upholstery work.

      i know! any recommendations for where to go to custom make something without paying a decorator?

      http://www.buildasofa.com/ and http://www.thrivefurniture.com/ are two places that I refer my clients to take a look at for sofa ideas. Thrive is very reasonable for the quality of the designs and materials they use they also have an amazing customer service policy. I don't know heaps about Build A Sofa but I think they are very easy to work with to get a more custom look on a budget.

      I will say that you'd be surprised at the deals you can get working with a local designer directly because they often have vendor relationships that you might not be able to achieve negotiating on your own.

      thanks for your help! I'm willing to pay to get it right I just don't know where to start. Wouldn't even mind working with a designer I just don't know how to go about finding one that suits my style.

      I would check out sofa from North Carolina Furniture makers. They have many styles and you can select the fabric you would like and they will ship it too you. I can vouch for how comfortable they are and they last. The brand I really love is Drexel and they have a website. You can order from it or find a dealer near you. I am sure I need new upholstery just b/c it is a little dated but certainly not b/c it is worn out. It is white (with a pattern hence the outdated) but always cleaned easily when the dog got loose on it. It is in a formal living room but it was always the go to place for comfort. I used to study on it when working on my Master's Degree. One of the furniture dealers that carry them in NC is Grindstaffs. A lot of NC furniture stores discount and ship. Best of all it is American made.
