Steve was able to take our detailed list of design requirements and create an incredibly functional home plan that ultimately satisfied all of our needs and desires. Highlights of our project included: - The final home plan was the product of a highly collaborative and iterative design process that relied upon 3D renderings and walkthroughs to test and review the plan at each stage of design. This allowed us to validate the plan and, where necessary, make adjustments before construction actually started. We can honestly say that there is nothing material we would change about the design. - Steve’s extensive background in modular and net zero construction ensured an extremely energy-efficient home (HERS score of 11) - Our building envelope presented some interesting positional challenges that Steve was able to solve elegantly and efficiently. - Steve not only accommodated our desire to do the interior finishing work (i.e., cabinetry, tiling, flooring, painting, etc.) ourselves, but in fact actively facilitated our ability to do so by adjusting his build plan to complete our workshop well before the rest of the house was completed. “We have hired LakeHouse Design Build for several major projects at our lakeside cabin in Belgrade, Maine, and have been thrilled with the work done. Projects included a complete rebuild of portions of the main floor, including a new entrance porch, redesigned kitchen, bathroom, interior stairways, shelving, wiring updates, exterior patio, exterior stairways, and others. The work done was based on our wishes and requirements, but the design and details primarily reflected Mr. Bill Hudson's unique skills as a builder and designer. He was able to identify options that did not occur to us, and came up with designs that preserved the old camp character of the building while incorporating the modernization and comfort we sought. He was very skilled at managing modifications to cope with engineering and other challenges discovered in dealing with an 80+ year old cabin. Mr. Hudson's work reflects a remarkable attention to detail and quality. He is meticulous, careful, and will not accept poor quality work or materials. He does virtually all the work himself or with some assistance, and does not leave things to subcontractors in his absence. He communicated with us frequently and in detail, including regular photo project reports. He promptly involved us in any decisions, changes, or other planning information as the project progressed. His results have been wonderful for us - and are the source of constant favorable comments from neighbors, visitors, and others. We initially learned of his work from several neighbors whose projects reflected similar quality work from him. After researching area contractors before engaging this work, I had no doubt he was the best choice for our projects. We would hire him again for additional work without hesitation, and I have no reservations in recommending him to others.”

“Among other projects Eric Smith, owner of Oceanside Builders, has done for us over the past twenty-some years, is a dock built for our house in Maine. The existing dock when we bought the house was worn beyond repair and poorly installed. Eric and his crew built us a sturdy new ramp and float dock, over 100' long, out into the tidal cove in front of our house. The trickiest part was building the stairs down the embankment; the old ones had just been laid down on the clay. The new ones are pinned and tied into the bank and are not going anywhere! The quality of work done by this company is of the highest standard. You will find cheaper companies in the area but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. The work they do is done right the first time, the team works well together and with us, They have creative and innovative ideas to make the project better. They rarely get upset by unexpected "challenges" and will work with the client to obtain the desired result. A critical attribute Eric has is knowing the codes of the surrounding towns and the ability to work with the town and government officials in obtaining permits. And if they can't make it as scheduled, they will CALL you to let you know!”
