“Ktichen renovation. First experience with remodeling. The Hahka team were professional and supportive. Designer Linda Billings was extremely accessible and helpful. Her suggestion to incorporate an island with the character of furniture is the statement piece that adds the "wow" factor to our kitchen. General contractor Randy Hahka very clearly has a personal interest in quality work. He strongly lobbied for the replacement of louvered pantry and laundry doors with doors that more closely matched the new cabinetry-although more costly, this was definitely the right decision from a design perspective. The construction team were skillful, friendly, honest and easy to work with. We did have a few whoopsies, but I understand this is par for the course with renovation projects and at the end, nothing was left unresolved. The team very clearly made great efforts to provide customer satisfaction. Job was not completed on time, mainly due to issues with pantry/laundry doors. Very happy with the results of our project.”

“My wife and I purchased a 50 year old Dutch Barn style equestrian property that needed a lot of both aesthetic and functional updating. In my previous neighborhood, I had been watching progress on a total remodel and was impressed by how quickly and efficiently the work was proceeding. Also, the design makeover was notable in how subtle yet remarkable the effect was. So, I introduced myself to Dean and I immediately understood he was no ordinary designer. I hired him on the spot. Dean and his wife Tina are a great team in that they both have design backgrounds and Dean understands all aspects of construction. Together they came up with solutions to functionally modernize our 50 year old Dutch Barn equestrian property while simultaneously maintaining the style integrity of the house. Every step of the way, Dean was very consultative and responsive, and provided us with multiple design options to choose from. He would explain the reasons why certain styles would work versus some of the ideas we had which were not necessarily in keeping with the Dutch Barn style. We are thrilled with the outcome and have had nothing but compliments from everyone who has seen the end result. I highly recommend Dean Sharp, The House Whisperer, to anyone considering a remodel or custom build project.”

“We interviewed 13 different contractors before hiring Eileen to remodel our house. She was initially working with an "interior designer" that we had previously retained, but it turned out that at best, she was an interior decorator. We were really trying to give the "designer" the benefit of the doubt because I had a prior relationship with her through my alumni association and we had become friends, but Eileen became concerned because her "design" ideas weren't going to work well for functional and aesthetic reasons. Eileen finally scheduled a meeting for all of us to attend, but the "designer" failed to show up. In any event, when we learned about the extent of the problems, we immediately terminated the "designer." It later came to light that the "designer" had also charged us inappropriately and had us purchase materials at the highest priced stores in order to increase the size of her fees. In any event, Eileen felt so sorry for us and she had been an interior designer before she became a licensed contractor. Eileen took over the role of designer and did not charge us for that additional role because she couldn't believe what we had paid already in that regard. In any event, Eileen and her crew were very diligent and met their time deadlines. With such a large job, it is not unusual for some problems to arise. To her credit, Eileen always took responsibility for any such issues. In fact, the roof leaked over a year after her roofer had done repairs in that area and Eileen made sure that the roof was fixed properly and that the damage caused by the leak was corrected to our satisfaction. We were so impressed with Eileen and liked working with her so much, that she became a close personal friend. We most recently saw her at our wedding on May 3rd, over three years after she remodeled our house.”

“My 150 year old house remodel went so smoothly, quickly and on budget with my contractor Mark Magid, owner of Below Magid Construction. He was so professional and creative, but even better, he made the process amazingly fun! Because we were not sure what we would find inside the walls or under the floors of this sweet old house, everyday was an adventure for me with Mark and his high qualified subcontractors. 5 layers of wallpaper, 4 layers of linoleum, oaks floors on top of fir floors, truly vintage kitchen cabinets, plumbing fixtures and electrical surprises were never a stress, more like an exciting challenge. I would email him a list of questions or ideas, and the same day Mark would answer me and arrive at the site to meet me with suggestions and answers to update but honor the historical value of my home. It's hard for my family and friends to understand that I enjoyed everyday of my challenging remodel!”

They do beautiful work from rough to finish. I have found them to be good problem solvers which can be very important sometimes in remodel or addition projects - not "how do I solve this?" - their attitude is always "here is the issue and this is how we think it can be solved".
