“From the time we first met Scott in person, we felt completely confident in his abilities to help us design our first home. Scott was extremely personable and made us feel at ease throughout the entire process, which was no easy feat since we have little experience with the home design process. He is very knowledgeable in Michigan code and energy-efficient homes and made some great suggestions on how we could increase the R value of the house, which was very important to us. He offered advice about which type of insulation to use, what windows would be most cost-effective yet eco-friendly and how geothermal could be used in our home. He also pointed out some flaws in the floor plan we brought as inspiration and helped us design a well thought out, functional layout that will for our family for years to come. On the exterior, he offered many ideas on how to give a new build some character and make it feel inviting. Scott delivered our plans very quickly and when we had revisions, they were done promptly. When we decided to change the roof pitch to add more head space to the second story of our cape cod, he called to discuss truss design and potential increased home costs to ensure we were making the best decision. I would highly recommend Scott to anyone looking for a passionate, talented architect that has your best interests in mind. He is prompt, professional and detail oriented and his plans were outstanding. Our house will be built over the next 9 months and I cannot wait to see his vision come to life!”

In addition to detailed architectural drawings they provided three dimensional models showing what the home would look like after the renovation. It was an absolute delight to work with them and a major plus to work with a husband and wife team. Over the years we have worked with them several more times on various projects including expansion of a room through an exterior wall, redoing the deck, roof, and siding, adding additional windows to the home, etc. Each time they have been wonderful to work with. “Molly Bachelor was our architect for a recent project that involved a new front porch with Azek deck and steps and a cedar ceiling, a new exposed-aggregate concrete front walkway with a solid steel blacksmith-crafted handrail, LED path lighting on cedar posts supporting the railing and along the walkway and driveway, and new paint on the plywood panels between the redwood siding on our midcentury modern home. Molly did an excellent job of listening to our needs and desires, and then developing a plan that would enhance the curb appeal and increase the safety of our home. Her design respected the style of the house but gave it a unique flair. She connected us with a contractor who was as pleasant to work with as she was. Molly was easy to reach when a question was raised or a decision needed to be made – by us or by one of the contractor’s crews. We are delighted with the results and highly recommend Molly Bachelor as an architect.”

“I can't say enough great things about our experience working with AZD on our dream home! This is NOT the only architect that we looked at and based on their creativity, personalities involved and the work they've done for us we definitely made the right choice. I also very much liked that they had a clear pricing model that was concise. Other architects that we met with in the area couldn't provide us with much clarity and only left us more confused on how much it might cost. Our house will be out here on Houzz at some point and you'll see why we're excited about the work they've done and their creativity....it's going to be a very cool house! My wife shares the same sentiment as I do with our AZD experience and how fun it's been and still is as we plan to break ground. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an enjoyable experience when planing a home whether traditional or modern. We actually found them by dumb luck as we were talking about building our dream home many years ago. We spent countless hours and weekends driving around looking at homes for years. There were four houses that we loved, although each very different, and we kept going back and looking at them. They were all many miles apart and in different cities in our metro area. Ironically, one went up for sale, and in the Realtor.com listing it said "designed by AZD". I had never heard of them but with a simple google search their site popped up and looking at their portfolio it was interesting to find that the four houses we loved were all designed by AZD. We still looked at other Architects just to be completely informed, and as I said above, we know for certain we made the right choice to go with AZD. Building a dream home is about the total experience...the right Architect makes a huge difference in that experience.”
