The big thing for me was we were working under a deadline to take advantage of a free building permit offer from Langford that was ending. He made the adjustments quickly and we got them in on time. “My partner and I were introduced to Kyla through our realtor and friend after we bought a brand new, nice but WAY too beige house. We are so happy and feel so lucky to have been able to work with her to create what is our perfect house. We were very hesitant at first because designing and decorating are so far removed from what we do and what we even wanted to do with a new house. Moreover, our past experience working with a designer was not very positive. So, we entered into it very cautiously, letting Kyla know we were nervous and didn't really have a solid understanding of what we wanted or how she could help. Honestly, it could not have turned out better! She knew perfectly how to work with us to understand who we are, the type of lifestyle and style we have, and the types of spaces we wanted in our new home. She really incorporated us into our new home. For example, my partner has a Masters in Astrophysics and is obsessed with astronomy (dark matter, nebulae, etc). So, she had a local artist create an amazing set of paintings to hang on our 35 foot wall, which she painted this beautiful, night sky blue. It is incredible! She also really worked with me to create a bedroom that is a sanctuary where I can read, relax and look at the clouds (on my amazing cloud wallpaper she sourced from an artist in France). We are not only happy with the result, but the process. She came to us each meeting completely prepared with ideas, room layouts, drawings, materials...everything required for us to make decisions. When we couldn't find what we wanted locally, she sourced it from out of town or through local artists and wood workers. More often than not, the items she designed and had created were better than what we could have purchased. For example, we liked this living room table that we found online but felt it wasn't quite right. So, she designed one herself and working with a local woodworker/carpenter they created the most amazing and adaptable coffee table. We hope to be able to work with Kyla again on our next house or cabin. Her style, professionalism, personality and good humour made the whole process not only easy, but fun.”

The image of a forest in white and greens creates an effective counterpoint to the 1960's cast in place concrete facade and signals a major building addition and renovation. We had a good working relationship and I would gladly work UTANAGEL DESIGN again.”
