“Excellent dialogue between client and architect throughout the project. Always attempting to incorporate client's ideas into the design. Constant follow up throughout the project and excellent dialogue with builders and other craftsmen involved in the project.”
Charles Louwerse Architects

“We needed an extension to our cottage that met our needs, was sympathetic to the property and its surroundings and satisfied the rigors of the planning process, made harder as the cottage is a listed building. Charles Louwerse Architects created a beautifully functional and attractive design. And, through a competitive tender process that they organised, introduced us to an excellent builder. Throughout the project, Charles Louwerse Architects were flexible and professional, helping to maximise the potential of the site. The end product exceeded our expectations and we could not be happier. None of this would have been possible without their expertise, experience and exceptional attention to detail..”

“Our starting point was deciding we needed to re-build our 1950’s single skin, add-on extension. ( The kitchen was colder than in the fridge in winter!) It also needed to sit well with our old cob house. Phil was great as he helped us remodel both our design ideas, as well as our new extension. Phil guided us through a process that we had already done a lot of thinking about. He set us tasks to consider our design, sketching ideas, looking at materials and finishes. As a result, we covered a wall with images, drawings and colours. He then took the ideas we had, developed, improved and enhanced them…definitely a more elegant solution! Phil had the ability to find answers to problems that actually added to the design, e.g., our glazed end truss and the window tray enabling a higher ceiling height. He was also great fun to work with. He helpfully answered streams of questions from first time self-builders (that must sometimes have been blindingly obvious to him), with patience, helpful diagrams and many cups of tea! Working with an architect is a partnership, one where listening and understanding is key for both parties. Our advice…pick an architect you can relate too and enjoy working with. They will probably provide solutions that challenge your thinking, but more importantly for us, build on, and improve your own ideas.”
Annie Martin Architect

“We bought a plain, dated, house in Chagford in 2014, with the intention of carrying out major alterations to fully exploit the great situation and outlook, and to create a light-filled energy efficient contemporary home. Although I have a long background in building and design, we decided that we wanted to work with a younger architect who could bring current expertise in planning, design, and technical advice. From a short list of three, we appointed Annie Martin, mainly because of her proven design skills and experience in dealing with planning within the National Park, but also because of her grasp of our brief ; we felt that we could work well together. Annie took on the initial design concepts, the planning and building regulation applications, and bringing in the specialist advice on structural and energy issues, on time and budget; this allowed us to complete the virtual rebuild of the house in a five month period. She is very well informed on technical matters and understands the practicalities of the building process - with an unusual talent for freehand sketch details about how things go together. We are now enjoying living in a very special home, much admired, and Annie's work was central to achieving this. We have no hesitation in recommending Annie ; if we ever decide to do another project, we would seek her involvement from the outset. Martin Procter”

“A young company. And perhaps because of their relative youth as well, they showed a refreshingly high level of openness and willingness to try out ideas I threw at them. I am not a mainstream client and they accommodated my quirky ideas with great professionalism. They were not averse to using unusual materials and They designed for me an extensive timber framed studio for painting, photography and other creative work within the grounds of my property, replacing a large boat building workshop/garage. They followed my brief well and added more ideas to my vision. The building team they recommended was also a young team who were exceptional too. It is now a regular venue opened it to the public under the county wide Open Studios program. From beginning to end, they maintained a close watch on the project and helped me realise my vision and a lovely working environment. I love it and most visitors do too. It is lovingly known as the Tin Shed Studio.”

“My wife and I hired NEST to design and provide solutions to change a bungalow in to a family home, with an eye on sustainability and eco. You won’t find a better or more knowledgeable architect who really cares about your build. We could not be happier with the work, and not a day goes by without my family and I appreciating the warm and open space we are lucky enough to live within. Thank you again!”
