His pre-inspection of the home was accurate and proved very valuable in the design we were after. “Bruce at Superior Drafting and Design was hired to provide design services to turn a 3 level split house in Lakeview into a 4 level split by adding 625 square feet of master bedroom and bathroom space. His design was very good for an awkward access from the existing space up into the new space, and he navigated the City of Calgary Development and Building Permit process with skill. He obviously spends a lot of time at City Hall. Below this new space was the existing living room and kitchen/dining area. Adding this space meant removing all the old roof, reinforcing the 2 x 4 walls, and installing new joists, floor, and then the new construction above. Bruce made a specific recommendation to raise the ceiling height on the existing floor by 12", to 9 feet. I was a bit reluctant, because of the extra pony walls and rigidity supports required to prevent hinging, but eventually decided to accept the recommendation, with excellent results. It has added considerable value to the house, far in excess of his fee! Bruce was very helpful in connecting with various suppliers, like stairs (we replaced 4 sets of stairs with new ones with wider treads) and others. When I was called away from Calgary for a week, Bruce also stepped in as general contractor, at a time when there was actually no roof on 1/2 the house, weather was threatening and various trades needed to be coordinated and supervised. Bruce is personable and easy to work with, and I have recommended him to numerous home owners and small businesses doing development and renovations.”
