“John Ballack was the primary architect on our highly contemporary house design on a trapezoidal shaped lot in an urban area of Chicago. John’s creativity and dedication to our project were exemplary. John’s calm demeanor yet forceful problem solving abilities proved instrumental in effecting a very successful result through often demanding external circumstances. In addition to the technical aspects of the project, John is extraordinarily easy to work with on everything from broad architectural concepts to the minute design details, from drawing through execution of construction. I would hire John Ballack again without hesitation knowing that architectural success would be the outcome.”

“Brad did an outstanding job on our master suite/family room addition (pictured). This was our first experience working with an architect and Brad immediately put us at ease. He was incredibly easy to work with. He welcomed our ideas and was able to put them into a design that I couldn't imagine we'd be able to have. He always kept our preferences and our budget in mind and not only produced a stunning design, but kept it true to our house and within our budget. The biggest compliment we've received is that the addition fits in seamlessly with our house -- they can't even remember how the "old house" looked. Brad was invaluable during the contractor selection and was able to give us objective and practical advice when selecting our builder. The builder was also very complimentary of Brad's work -- commenting that the designs were very detailed and easy to understand. I would highly recommend Brad for any project, big or small. His rates are VERY reasonable, always meets deadlines (even when I can't) and was a pleasure to work with.”

“My husband and I were very happy with James' work for us which included architectural work for our master bedroom and bathroom and our kitchen. Our Oak Park home is a 1906 gem and we wanted to keep the integrity of detail yet become more livable. Both projects included moving walls; designing wooden details--windows to cabinets--that reflected detail in the rest of the house; placing weight-bearing beams to support ceilings and roof; redesigning stairs to basement and back yard, etc. Vanderheyden is a good listener and a solid architect/designer. He worked well with both our contractor and kitchen designer to improve and carry out our designs. We give him 5 stars. Linda and John Hillman”

“I am thrilled with our home renovation. Cory Smith was absolutely great to work with. After discussing what we were looking for in our renovation, Cory set out to design the perfect living space, all the while keeping our budget in mind. He came up with some wonderful ideas and completely exceeded our expectations. We were impressed with Cory’s level of detail – and his presence almost daily on the job site. More than once Cory asked to builder to change something he felt was not done to his level of perfection. Cory is creative and his designs are both beautiful and functional… once I suggested he eliminate something in his drawing I thought was unnecessary (a pantry!) and he convinced me to keep it. It is now one of my favorite features of our home and I still giggle whenever I think what it’d be like without it! Cory is professional and down to earth. He is kind and fair. Later my husband also asked Cory to design a small cottage in Wisconsin. The cottage was built to Cory’s design four years ago and sadly I can’t keep my husband away from it! He wants to be up there ALL THE TIME! I give Cory Smith Architecture the highest recommendation to anyone thinking of a home renovation.”
