Inside, on the porches, or in the grounds, one felt comfortably connected to the nearby natural beauty. “Melissa designed a kitchen and vertical addition to my 1820 brick one-room schoolhouse in Vermont. She was super thoughtful to find ways to preserve the original timber framing of the roof while maximizing the interior space for storage, second bedroom and office. The kitchen is almost finished and is a dream to work in. I haven't done the tower/dormer construction yet, but I dream about it daily!”

“Ray Boutin provided all the design work and most of the supervision on a significant home improvement project on our new house in Hyde Park, Vt. As the chief designer for Vermont Vernacular, the firm that did the work, Ray was our key contact and an outstanding collaborator for us. He was exceptionally creative, imaginative and thoughtful, and a great pleasure to work with. And he paid careful attention to all details. We were so pleased with Ray's work and the job that Vermont Vernacular did for us that we are hiring Ray and his firm to do a major addition to the house this spring. All the workmen that VV and Ray brought onto the job were skillful and very good to work with. We have just moved to Vermont, and we were a little nervous about taking on a construction project when we don't know the territory.
