“We met with Matthew Pavelchak in the summer of 2017 to discuss plans for rebuilding a house on Beech Mountain. We wanted the new house to capture the spirit of the traditional Alpine Haus put on our lot in the late 1960's, but with the quality construction, updated features, and more comfortable living that a new home could provide. Matthew really listened to our needs and came up with a beautiful, creative, livable design. Throughout the construction process, he made himself available to talk with our contractor and visit the construction site multiple times to clarify the plans and answer questions. The house was completed in June 2020 and we could not be happier with the final product. Matthew designed a gorgeous, user friendly, comfortable home that we will be in for many years. “Roger and his team worked closely with my husband and me to create the home of our dreams. I had a vision for many years and they listened carefuly, made realistic and valuable suggestions, and drew my dream better than I could have dreamed it. The design for our lake waterfront lot was a happy blend of my desire for sleek, modern with the HOAs idea of contemporary. We fit in nicely with the neighborhood, but have sleek linear shapes and smooth textures.
We were building on a very difficult lake front lot with extremely steep terrain and natural gulleys that held standing water. Roger and his team worked with engineers to make sure we lived "on the water, not in the water", creating a design that allowed the graders to push the natural running water around the house and down the hill rather than into the house. This gave us the wonderful opportunity to have access bridges rather than sidewalks - a unique and very eye pleasing addition.
Throughout the design they kept true to my vision while helping us add the features necessary to age in place. It is a beautiful design and we will live here forever. Roger Layman Architecture made the experience enjoyable and low stress. We would recommend this team to anyone who wants to build heir dream home.”

“Working with Mark Lee on our vacation home design was a pleasant experience. Because of his recommendations, our house is not only exactly the style we love, but is also functional. It is a cozy retreat for the two of us when we are here alone, yet it comfortably accommodates our visiting family and friends. Mark's plan maximizes our square footage so the house feels much larger than it actually is.
We've had many compliments, beginning with the contractor who said the plans were "builder friendly." As we requested, Mark designed our house with "wow" factors---such as the lofted ceiling, beautiful staircase, fireplace & custom shelves, and huge screened porch---that still "wow" our guests (and us every time we come.)
Completely satisfied with Mark's creative talents, knowledge, and attention to detail, we hired him in 2011 to design us a primary home in Alabama. Again, we were please with his work from start to finish.”
