“After interviewing three builders, I contracted with Fine Home Building because of their proven track record of renovating older homes - my home is 114 years old. FHB did an outstanding job, executing a full renovation including new additions to the house to accommodate a redesigned and enlarged kitchen, new master bath, office and laundry room as well an s a new screen porch. As a side note, the entire backside of the kitchen opens to the screen porch through magnificent mahogany doors that FHB manufactured - they are a work of art. The extensive remodel/renovation was completed while my wife and I were living in Germany, meaning this project was completed with very little oversight from the owners. The highest praise I can give FHB’s owner, Tom Bierster, he is an honorable man, always standing by the quality of his work – and always good for his word. This single attribute led to the successful renovation of our new home. I recommend FHB without reservation.”

However I find the choices of what they offer on the interior selection is somewhat limited and so if you want something different its all an upgrade and cost additional. Overall they do good work but could offer more choices with in the budget of the home.”

“We interviewed four contractors before selecting Boulder Construction for our project. Owner Bob Chapman stood out. He was the only builder who actually wanted to follow the architect's drawings. It has been a challenging project and he embraced it wholeheartedly. Bob worked well with the Building Department from the permitting process to issuance of the certificate of occupancy. Throughout the process he has been very thoughtful and innovative. Bob's crew is talented, hard working, and attentive to detail. So much so that my neighbor has now hired Boulder for his home project. Bob originally estimated nine months to completion but it has taken 17 months. The biggest delays were due to vendor/supplier shortages. Our project required some custom order items that caused long delays. Vendors promised delivery times that were not met. In one case six weeks turned into four months! Weather worked against us as 2015 was one of the wettest in recorded history in Mobile. We exceeded the budget due to a variety of reasons. Foundation work was more extensive due to hidden conditions. We discovered there was no plywood sheathing underneath the siding. Also discovered termite infestation/damage. Both big expenses. Updated codes required impact rated windows which was expected. However, the building department required upgraded exterior doors with multi-point lock systems. Also expensive and unplanned. Of course, we added to the overage by adding another room and a parking pad not in the original plan. Ultimately we completely remodeled the in-ground swimming pool which was also not in the original plan. Bob's sons work for Boulder Construction. Ben is a master carpenter who constructed wood paneled walls in the new foyer up to the 22' ceiling. The quality of work is breathtaking in its precision. Bobby is a skilled painter, roofer, wood floor and tile installer. The rest of the crew (Andrew and Stephen) are skilled "jack of all trades". Such honest, pleasant, and hard working guys. After one and a half years they are like family. Our project was difficult and challenging on several levels. The job site was our home that we lived in for the duration. It is on a small lot on a cul-de-sac with no room to store materials or leave a dumpster. Bob pulled a trailer behind his truck to haul debris on an "as needed" basis. He also had to choreograph deliveries with suppliers so neighborhood traffic and inconvenience would be minimized. Bob's crew learned how to make cast stone for our project and it really does look like limestone. They laid brick paver hardscape and were extremely careful to grade the property for drainage. They carefully analyzed every task to be performed. Much easier to do it right the first time. We have several other projects we would like to complete in the future. Boulder Construction is the only company we will consider. They are head and shoulders above the rest. Once word gets out I hope they won't be too busy to squeeze us in!
