Creating Thoughtful, Livable Spaces For You in Plymouth

With a background in both the Arts and Design world, Moira has worked in the industry for the past 20 years and holds an MFA from the New England School of Art & Design. Her resume includes the Shelburne Museum of Vermont, the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston, luxury design companies Porcelanosa, Montage and Design Within Reach, as well as experience working for prominent Boston Interior Designers such as William Hodgins. It was while working at the MFA (during the Victoria and Albert exhibit featuring pieces from the 19th century Aesthetic Movement) that Moira really felt at home with objects and artifacts. This led her to pursue a career as an Interior Designer. “I loved that design was rich with diversity, historical depth, visually satisfying and constantly evolving”. It is no surprise why Moira feels so passionately about interior design. As a child, she frequented antique shops and flea markets with her grandmother who taught Moira how to recognize the authentic and beautiful in decorative objects. Having an eye for the decorative arts is “deep seated” for her, as well as her affinity for nature. Growing up near the ocean, as well as living in Vermont, Moira was always mesmerized by her natural surroundings. “I love that nature is constant and brimming with patterns”. As a designer, Moira feels it is imperative to collaborate with her clients, as she feels that space is an emotional extension of one’s self. “I need to know who that person is or what we need to achieve conceptually in order to create a space that evokes positive sensations on a multitude of levels. Each human is unique and our space should reflect who we are- or who we would like to be. I love to study people, how they live, how they function and what makes them unique.” Her style is modern, minimal with a hint of vintage.

I first met Moira 15 years ago, when she helped me pick out dining chairs. Since then, she and I have crossed paths and worked together in a variety of facets of the design world. It is always a pleasure to work with her! She is an accomplished designer who listens to client needs, and guides their projects to satisfying conclusions, keeping one eye on the details and one on the larger picture. I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for interior design services.

Moira Manning arrived in my life just in time to help me solve “the coming of age” dilemma: Do we sell the house and move to something smaller or do we renovate this one? Either way, I needed help. To further complicate my life, my daughter was getting married in three weeks, and my family room required immediate attention. With one positive experience after another, I have accompanied Moira through a multitude of furniture stores as well as down the halls of Boston’s Design Center. She assisted me with the renovation of three bathrooms, a stunning powder room, and even accompanied me to Stone quarries where we coordinated kitchen counters and floors. Working with Moira was so comfortable that before long I hired her to update my entire home. Together we redid my kitchen with wonderful new cabinets and fixtures. We visited art galleries as we searched for just the right piece to go over my fireplace. She magically incorporated my extensive art collection into my newly refurbished dining and living rooms. As we chose fabrics, window treatments, furniture, lighting and carpets, she introduced me to the uncluttered and open concept that represents all that I had envisioned. Working with Moira was a delightful experience.....and now we plan to do the bedrooms.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Moira on a handful of kitchen design projects during our time at Porcelanosa! She has such a creative mind and is always thinking outside the box to give her clients their dream spaces. We met Moira 11 years ago when we were downsizing from our house to a condominium in Brookline. We went furniture shopping and met Moira who helped us choose pieces to fit our new space and lifestyle. We were so pleased with her that we have called on her over the years to help with major gut renovations: a kitchen, two bathrooms and a half bath. Currently we are working together on a redo of our office/guestroom. Moira is easy to work with, eager and very pleasant. She is respectful of our aesthetic but also can gently encourage us to consider something out of our usual comfort zone. We have been very pleased and recommend her highly.

My husband and I live in an approximately 170 years old house in Cambridge MA. We have enjoyed working with Moira on several projects over the last 8 years. We felt “simpatico” with her immediately; she has a great personality. Her professionalism and her flexibility always shine. In the design process, the inclusion of our ideas was paramount to her; the 3 of us functioned as a team. She was excellent at managing the project(s) on budget and on schedule. And even though we didn’t like living without a kitchen for a month, we were beyond thrilled with the end-product of our kitchen renovation. She has a fantastic knack for taking one tiny element that you mention to her as a remote possibility and making it fit in to the entire design scheme perfectly. And then your reaction is “Wow how did she do that?” From the smallest thing like picking a fabric or a paint color to a total rehab, she is the one. She has done kitchen and bathroom(s) gut re-dos for us.
