The vision for Willowsford is based on a premise of Inspired Living that establishes connections for its residents and enriches their quality of life on a variety of levels. Willowsford draws on Virginia’s landscape and rich farming traditions to create a community defined by natural open spaces, community supported agriculture, and activities that encourage a renewed appreciation of the environment and land stewardship.
Willowsford itself is comprised of four distinctive “village” parcels that are interconnected within the framework of the one overall community; The Grange, The Grant, The Grove and The Greens. The community spans over 4,000 acres, with more than half of its land area designated to remain as open space. A majority of this extensive open space is the responsibility of the Willowsford Conservancy, a nonprofit organization specially formed to oversee and maintain Willowsford’s extensive natural resources and to initiate related programs and services for the benefit of community residents and patrons. Under the stewardship of the Willowsford Conservancy, the community’s open spaces will be maintained through a variety of sustainable uses intended to further connect residents to the land around them, including community supported agricultural production of crops and food items as well as the management of green space to preserve existing streambeds, mature stands of trees, meadows and other unique natural amenities of the community.
In addition to its expansive natural open spaces, Willowsford will have a variety of unique, active recreation amenities available to its residents. Plans include two large-scale community centers, The Sycamore House and The Lodge at Willow Lake, featuring swimming pools, fitness facilities and multiple other indoor and outdoor recreation spaces for resident activities. Willowsford also intends to feature an extensive trail and park network, children’s play areas, two lakes for fishing, an amphitheatre, a dog park, camping areas and community garden plots for resident use.
The emphasis on open space as a recreation amenity, sustainable agriculture and the affiliation with the region’s farming heritage are all intended to integrate Willowsford into the local landscape in a way that has not been done before in Loudoun County. This will create a unique environment and a sense of place that sets Willowsford apart from other communities in the market.
