Very very interesting read... they call it the LG house, winner of many awards, kitchen by IKEA Back cabinets on a 16 foot linear foot layout and an island 9 feet long -same as our configurations - notice how table is placed alongside the island and at the end of the table A patio door opens into an open space... worth reading all the questions/comments on this construction including responses by architect .. Eric you might find interesting how they dealt with the lighting on top of island - architect was nice enough to even provide a template for creation of this ...

LS: Example of closed riser stair but open below. You could tuck bikes underneath but they would pretty much just be out in the open. And just a note, these are painted wood square baluster with a stained wood handrail.
check that low wall in the back. stairs.

love the stairs and storage LS: Love this one too. Note that in Quebec (and I think across Canada) you need a handrail that is solid (glass) or with vertical spindles/balusters. Horizontal bars or cables are not permitted, and you certainly can't leave it open.
Gost stairs these are nice if those are cabinets under LS: Very nice and modern closed riser stair. Great storage below, but I don't think you could squeeze bikes in and out of the cabinet doors.
what type of folding doors are these
thickness of each step LS: Good example of an open riser stair with side stringers. Treads are likely attached to steel angles embedded in the wall, and onto the exposed steel stringer on the right. Glass panels close off the opening, but the wood handrail is a nice touch as it is more comfortable on your hand.
we love it
