Six panel doors unify the bedroom wall. Now the fourth door from the left opens to one of the master suite’s bathrooms, while the other five panels serve as closet doors. When the doors are closed, the redesigned closet and bathroom doors almost look like one seamless wall, Fein says. The only giveaway that the bathroom door is different is the small stainless steel handle. The closet doors lack outside hardware because they open with touch latches. When the doors open, motion-activated LED lights go on. This feature illuminates the space without any additional pulls or switches.

Printed Landscape Gallery Wall Backdrop in a Harlem Bedroom When Laura Handler could not find a headboard she liked, the product designer came up with her own creative solution. “I flirted with a huge gold-leafed Italian antique one for a while but decided against it,” she says. Handler used to live in Montana before moving to her Harlem apartment, and she printed 30 black-and-white images that she had taken of her previous front yard. “It is a mountain called Emigrant Peak. I had photographed it in snow, lilac season, hail, bright summer sun and a double rainbow. It keeps me from getting too homesick,” Handler says. The pictures are printed on computer paper and, in her words, “are just nailed up there. I like how it looks casual.”

The shelves are 1/4" think aluminum plate which slide into a 1/4" gap between the walnut boards. The substrate behind the walnut is plywood painted black. It's a very simple system. Shelves could be tacked in place with silicone if needed = this isn't a design solution you'd want to use in places that have earthquakes

Bookcase. A large, open shelving unit makes a natural divider for a bedroom area in a studio. In this photo, a colorful, eclectic mix of books and collectibles is artfully arranged on the shelves. The arrangement catches the eye so well that you might barely notice the bed located on the other side, neatly tucked into a private, cozy corner. You can find many available options like this online; this one is from Ikea.
It may not be possible for you to actually build a wall to create a bedroom in your studio apartment, but you can sure mimic the function of one. Faux wall. Here, a wall of wooden slats sections off a private area for the bed, separating it from the adjacent living quarters. As this photo shows, the faux wall also makes a great backdrop for a console table.
Alyssa Lee Photography Save Email The bathroom includes a 20-inch vanity, a toilet and a 3-by-3½-foot shower (not shown). They took the tile all the way up to the trim to make the space feel higher. “If we stopped halfway, it would have broken up the space,” Strom says. “Plus, it’s not a huge space, so the cost wasn’t a huge factor.”
Limited space for a deep sink or vanity. Finding a ready-made vanity that will fit the narrowest of spaces, but will still provide plenty of storage, can feel like an impossible task. Solution: Look to more creative ways of tackling extremely slim bathrooms and solving the space issue. Having a vanity or storage cabinets built to your own design and exact dimensions will be a big luxury, not to mention a big cost, but it will transform your awkward bathroom into a functional space that everyone can use. What’s more, stylish cabinetry will take the focus away from a petite sink or faucets that aren’t very glamorous.
Behind the bed ledge. Clever design is evident in this small bedroom, where a ledge is built out of a wall between two closets, with just enough space to tuck in the bed. Again, there’s no need for bedside tables since the ledge behind the bed serves as the spot to arrange books and art.

The same fluid white drapes subtly mask the bookshelves on the wall opposite the bed. “We improved the modular shelving system by adding a hinged worktop that can be used as a small laptop desk or a vanity table,” Kallo says.
Here you can see clearly how the floaty white drapes softly conceal the wardrobe area.
Kallo installed an open-shelf modular storage structure to create the spacious walk-in wardrobe in the former balcony. “Instead of doors, we used airy white drapes to hide the structure and preserve the nice natural light that was coming into the room through the large windows of the balcony,” Kallo says.

stained glass windows: The windows were sourced by the Architects, Foley Fiore Architecture. As noted by them before, "The stained glass windows are based on a motif for the exterior railing system (which we also designed). The stained glass inserts are independent leaded glass panels attached to the inside face of operable, insulated Marvin windows. The panels were produced by Jim Anderson Stained Glass here in Boston".
