Dark Floral 2 in ‘Black’ XXL wallpaper And then there’s XXL, three times the size of its original design. This scale imitates the look and feel of a large-scale mural on a feature wall. Tip: To create an elegant and soothing interior space, Cashman recommends pairing this wallpaper with beige, soft pinks, subtle greens, light yellow or purple.
It was US-born, Netherlands-based Ellie Cashman who, inspired by the work of still-life painters from the Dutch Golden Age, wowed us for the first time with her moody, over-scaled floral wallpaper designs. As she says, “I paint flowers in all their states, with an emphasis on those that break through [the] threshold from dark to light, from seed to stalk to bud to full, extravagant bloom”. Not surprisingly, her sensual wallpapers have become an interiors sensation. And today, they’re turning up in the most beautiful spaces, with many different interpretations. While it’s certainly not for the pattern-shy, we show how you can incorporate this incredible floral beauty into your interiors – while seeing how Houzzers around the world have woven it into their homes
High cupboards are ideal for seasonal clothing or items you don’t wear often. By keeping lesser-worn clothing up high and out of the way, you can turn prime real estate – the readily accessible parts of your wardrobe – over to the clothing you wear regularly. High cupboards are also a good spot to store suitcases and bulky travel bags
On the first floor there are two bedrooms and one bathroom and, like downstairs, the challenge was to make the spaces work as well as they possibly could within the existing footprint. Opting for floor-to-ceiling fitted storage increases the sense of space in the main bedroom, and the panelling is true to the house’s history. The painted window frame is a smart way to bring colour and character to the room without adding clutter.
Bedroom Simple and beautiful, a glass pendant either side of the master bed creates a distinctive boutique-hotel vibe. Here, a relaxing mood is created with gentle light coming through the smokey glass shade. Hanging a pendant rather than using a bedside lamp has the bonus of freeing up space on the bedside tables. Tip: Add a downlight in the ceiling above for stronger light to read in bed.
Bowerhouse Save Email Boho beach There’s no need for boho to feel overpowering or too adventurous. You can take all the calm beauty of coastal living and add boho elements for a truly tranquil look. A sheer canopy bed with a flower garland makes for your very own boho beach oasis. Feel free to mix secondhand and recycled pieces with newer ones. Boho beach style takes beautifully crafted yet imperfect pieces and makes them shine.
Boho glam Who said glamour has to be hard won? The introduction of boho touches such as an elephant cushion and ethnic-print throw make an otherwise Art Deco style bedroom surprisingly laid-back. The success of this combination of two seemingly disparate styles is due to thoughtful selection of romantic art and decor in sweet pastel colours. The result is a beautiful, nostalgic haven. Combining a huge amount of different patterns and textiles isn’t necessary for boho style – just choose one or two pieces that will create a sense of intrigue when paired together
The master bedroom was influenced by the home’s lovely garden, which features large hedges and lavender. Heatherly Design made this bedhead in Designer’s Guild ‘Cassandra’ linen, which has a floral pattern reflecting the outdoor space. A soft colour palette makes the room a serene resting space. The green room was an addition to the home from a renovation ten years prior, and was completely updated by Delaney. The bedhead and bedside tables were painted in ‘Flooded Gum’ by Dulux, which contrasts nicely against the emerald green Country Road cushions. They also complemented the artworks above the bed, which Delaney made taking inspiration from the cushions. Lamp: Orson and Blake
We wanted each room to have its own personality but still retain a sense that it was all a cohesive design,” says Delaney. “There is always something really nice about having a unique touch in each room, particularly the bedrooms, even if they are only guest rooms for most of the year.”
The yellow room doubles as a designated retreat for grandson Sam, who is 16. Bedhead: Heatherly Design; ceiling light: custom-made; wall dot: Pony Rider
The three additional rooms were designed as spare bedrooms to provide warmth and comfort for overnight visitors. Reid’s grandchildren visit often, so she wanted to ensure they had their own rooms. “The blue room and yellow room were designed specifically with them in mind. The bedroom pictured here was for 13-year-old Grace, whose favourite colour is blue,” says Delaney. Bedhead: Heatherly Design; lamp and side table: Matt Blatt
Ellie took an original graphite drawing inspired by an old-fashioned botanical illustration to come up with her Twisting Tulips wallpaper design. The bending flowers suggest movement, making it work as powerful focal point in the room. Ellie Cashman wallpapers are sold online and can be shipped to Australia.
