KV: Saw in a room we had saved. Just saving for future reference. SY: lovely
or this below sink: KV: I love that. But you know what? My eye is really drawn to that tile for some reason. Would this throw off the scheme if we had wood everywhere, but a tile like this is the kitchen. It doesn't seem right for the mud room. I like the tile direction you are going there. Just thinking out loud or in text. :) SY: let's discuss friday!
I'm not doing a full preliminary design of your mud / bath / laundry areas except insofar as we've slightly reconfigured them in plan - and if you decide to redo them, we can certainly dig in on materials. For purposes of a starting point just to show you the jist, though, this floor and white cabinets with black hardware are all pretty great though, yes? We looked at dark slate tiles for floor too, which would be much more affordable. KV: I do like this whole setup
accent tile could just run ONLY up to the ceiling behind the stove and open hood... LMK if you have feelings about an open hood like this. I can make any of these options work, I think - or at least I'm willing to try any! :) KV: I prefer the tile to stop at a certain point and the covered hoods you have been showing me. SY: got it.
oh! this is that same tile we like form Ann Sacks, but in a gray. And shown all over up to a cabinet hood. It's good here - I think this is the kind of thing you'd like, right? - but not sure about the context in your space. I'll work on it. :) KV: Oh, wow! Looking at it in this larger area and picture. It's really beautiful! I guess we will see.
all over backsplash would be lots more expensive, and is nice if it extends up the wall behind an open hood like this ... (It's the only situation in which I really like an open hood like this between cabinets, when the tile on the wall goes to the ceiling.) It can be done below a hood concealed in a cabinet too - the effect we both liked in earlier imagery. Anyway I won't nix all-over blue tile for expense - only if it just feels as if it's too much to have it all over. Ok?
looking for a great backsplash tile behind the stove
under counter microwave that is not built in. good? - SY: follow up. Just realized I asked you about microwaves below! So sorry!!
this is pretty great for under counter option but not built-in. Yes? KV: Yes. I like the look of this more than the first one. Very nice. SY: ok! You need a certain amount of clearance around the unit, but this fits the unit very nicely. Do you have a microwave already that you want to reuse? If so, send me the model and dimensions? KV: I do. It is still boxed up and in storage. I will get to in a few days.
simple paneled hood from that kitchen you love. I'm inclined to do this kind of thing. ok? KV: Yes. Love.
do you need wine storage (refrigerated and room temp) and ice maker? KV: I would love this, but the ice maker is not a must. My grandparents have 4. 2 in each house and they constantly have issues with them.
do you need wine storage? KV: Yes and I like this.
talk to me about desires for bells and whistles like paper towel built-ins and trash and recycling and compost pullouts? KV: Definitely trash and recycling pull out. Paper towel built-in - love. KV: Just thought of something I would love to have a bread drawer. It could be larger to keep donuts, cookies, and other items in. SY: check - I think we would put that inside the "larder" - the big cabinet with toaster and coffee maker
shelf microwave behind closed doors in pantry. I sorta like this idea, because if it breaks down, you haven't built a cabinet specifically to certain dimensions. KV: I am not a huge fan of the microwave in the cabinet SY: ok!
micro and toaster behind closed doors in a pantry type unit?
tidy and useful.
this is pretty terrific in all sorts of ways. thoughts? small appliances / coffee station / microwave / pantry / wine - all kinds of things going on here.
talk to me about microwave. want one? standard shelf version or built-in drawer type? under cabinet or up higher? sometimes we put in appliance areas behind pantry doors... KV: I like this height. Does not have to be a drawer type, but under the cabinets kind of hidden away, but accessible.
I know this isn't your style! Just dropping here to show you the option of range, with double wall ovens. Another variant is to have a range-with-single-oven, plus a second oven and convection microwave in the wall.
do you want a pot filler ? KV: Yes. If possible. Yes SY: AAAND in reviewing comments below I see that there too. Ugh,sorry about that! My mind got Corona'd for a minute there!
ooh I love this idea for you. thoughts? I love
this effect for your banquette at the end of the kitchen! thoughts? This table happens to be the exact right size - this is all Serena and Lily. We could practically recreate this exactly as you see it - colors, pillows, chairs, table, light fixture. :) Your existing round white table, works in this scheme too. Would you want to keep your existing chairs? KV: I love everything about this picture. I would want to use these chairs I believe.
another serena & lily corner chair option for kitchen.
fabric customizable - looking for a lounge chair for kitchen. this is serena & lily eastgate lounge. KV: I like this style of chair better than the other
your banquette effect? upholstery, chairs, white table, glass and brass light fixture...? (This is all Serena & Lily)
Serena and Lily have such lovely things for a Charleston, light/bright/traditional/comfortable look. Pinning these as direction for banquette chairs. Like? KV: I do like these and Serena and Lily have always been one of my favorite places to look and oh and awe at things. Their stuff is beautiful. SY: agree!
Thinking we add cross beams in your kitchen and living, to give the large support beams a context. Maybe also in dining....KV: I love this idea
love this dark tile installation for mudroom/bath... Not unlike the one you pinned. Thoughts? KV: I actually really do like this dark tile. My first thought - how much they show- Would need some great rugs for catching debris.
KV: I kind of like this distressed tile floor with the different sizes throughout. SY: yes, talk to me about flooring. I know you don't like / will replace the stuff currently in your kitchen and front sitting room. We discussed tile OR wood - would you want to extend the dark wood currently in your dining and foyer? What about your family room? Keep carpet? Extend wood and add rug(s)? I would love to have wood in kitchen-living-foyer-dining, new tile in the mud/bathroom, and carpet or wood again in the guest. And what about the tile/laminate in the mud room now? I've reconfigured that space and it seems new tile would be better in there. Also, it looks as if you need flooring but have a rug for the guest room? I know this is a lot of info - feel free to send me an email. :) KV: Yes, we put new wood down in the foyer, dinning. I would like the living room wood put carpet down when we moved in because of babies. Wood would be fine in kitchen. Need new tile in back room and yes I pulled carpet up in back bedroom and have a rug in there right now until construction was closer to be done. I didn't want the carpet to get trampled on. I am a big believer in carpet in bedrooms.
KV: Light Fixtures
Use of deep lower drawers. SY: yes, I love deep drawers too
KV: There are my pantrys. SY: beautiful!
I love everything about this kitchen. The light fixtures, the bar, the cabinets, the sink, the cabinets fixtures, the chairs. SY: ok! got it. If we extended the dark floors from your dining/foyer, it would have this effect. Thoughts? I love those windows too. Wonder if you could apply those grills. You could also get that effect on small glass uppers. And the arch! Hmmmmm.... We have that beam going across your kitchen as well as your living room. If you started doing arches, it may be weird not to do them throughout the first floor. Or it may be ok if we just do the two... Anyway, that's just a germ of an idea... SY: follow up: I like the idea of doing a grid better! Kv: I do like the grills in the windows or I also always love a nice cafe shutter because they continue to let so much light in.
KV: Love the back splash. SY: How about that detail on the upper glass cabinets? I know you don't want too much glass, but a bit like this might be a nice touch...KV: I don't mind this glass. Its simple and classic.
Light fixtures. SY: yep. Glass shades do show dust, is all. KV: Ugh...thats what I was hoping to get away from. I guess we keep looking.
Light fixtures?? SY: sure, yes!
Maybe in area by back door - dry bar / coffee stand. Not totally sold but I do not hate the idea. SY: lol
KV: I dont hate these drawers and seat under these large windows. My front room possibly. SY: check! This is nice, but your front windows extend further than this, eliminating the option of the 90 degree cabinet abutting the window seat. :( But I have another good option for that end of the space, don't worry!
SY: beautiful southern effect here - fresh and clean but welcoming and warm. thoughts?
SY: very similar to the kitchen at left. your thoughts on this overall look and feel, and also any particular elements? KV: I love the cabinets and hardware, do not mind the lighting ficxture. SY: ok!
SY: love this white kitchen with the wood floors and tile breaking things up. thoughts? KV: Was thinking of a larger farm house sink, but then thinking stainless steel would keep so much nicer..this might me a nice compromise. SY: yes! stainless steel holds up so well. This is a beauty.
SY: thoughts on this traditional elegant all white effect with the wood floors? KV: I love this kitchen with the subtle white and more of the drawer storage on the bottom, simple hardware, show piece cabinets up top, bar stools, and I actullay do like this harwood that looks older and not brand new. A little worn for wear. SY: awesome! Me too, I love all of that. :) These barstools are particularly great, IMO.
SY: love this effect... you?
SY: same space as next photo
SY: this also feels airy and southern somehow to me. I know you don't want too many open shelves, but talk to me about the feel of this space, and also any of the specifics that you like or don't like?
SY: this is a fun pop of color in your pinterst board. what were your thoughts here? KV: I love the back splash here behind the stove. With my colors being blue this is something I could see myself loving if done right. SY: ooh yay, that is super fun KV: This accent or something like it. 6-26-20
SY: I love how I'm scrolling through your kitchen board looking at mostly white kitchens, or at least partially white kitchens, and then BOOM! This! lol. Tell me your thoughts here? And re: color in kitchen and adjacent spaces generally. :)
SY: your pin. tell me your thoughts here.
SY: one of your pins. Tell me what you like/don't like about this - overall feel and also any specifics (those chairs? that table? those light fixtures or hood? the floor color? etc)
SY: I know you like the wine fridge here; anything else? In terms of look and feel, I mean? Do you want a WHITE kitchen? This one is very very white. :) KV : I do like the little wine fridge :) I would like more of a subtle white. And now looking at that grey counter I think that is too much grey for me. I do like how some of these kitchens have glass cabinets at the top to display vases and platters. SY: got it! that's great feedback!
