Good use of space. This room has a good use of space in many ways. The couch is sized in a way that there is still room around it to move, but it is also big enough to be useful. The sort of cushion in the middle can act as another seat or more of a table, it is not too close or far way from the couch. People still have room to move.
I felt like this image was positive critique because the space is balanced. The beams and the wall of windows make this space larger than it really is. The white and grey mixed with a little bit of blue makes this room feel welcomed to anyone who would walk in there. They implemented a wine holder to the right of the fire place which adds a little bit of texture to the room. The furniture fits about perfectly in the room so its not too big and bulky nor to small and petite. I would assume that this living room would get a lot of natural lighting seeing that there is floor to ceiling windows along the back wall. Overall this room has a lot of great design decisions making it my choice for positive critique.
I chose this image for the negative critique for several reasons. There is no clear color scheme, and I can count at least four different patterns- none of which are similar- being used in this one room. The space is not used well as the table and chairs are shoved towards one side of the room and the other side is nearly empty. People would not be able to easily file through the room. On top of that, the lines in the room are not consistent, some are vertical, others horizontal, and most in some abstract shape, this creates a strange emphasis throughout the room and your eye does not know where to look. Finally, there is a strange mix of natural light and forced light. It seems like the only light in the room is candle light, making this, already dark room, even darker when it is not bright outside. Overall this room has many poor design choices making it my choice for the negative critique.
Emphasis. This room has a clearly emphasized feature. The TV and the fireplace both draw your eyes whenever you look at the room. The fire makes the room feel warmer and more calm.
