The sheathing is 1x6 T&G red Cypress with a "pickled" (fumed, bleached) finish in which we paint on a thinned white paint and then wipe it back off. The softer grain absorbs more tint but the wood grain and warmth of the wood show through. The contrast between rafters and ceilings accent the ceiling without making it feel too "heavy".
t is #2 pine. The trick is tp paint the ceiling black first, then paint your pine boards, then install the pine to the black ceiling.. This will give you good clean lines between the boards.. If you install the pine and then paint it, it looks sloppy in the cracks between the boards as the paint will glob up in an irregular fashion.. Mike
Hello I saw your question. I have achieved this same look with douglas fir re sawn and heavily distressed. Then finished with a product called ecco wood. It can be purchased on line from home depot. It ages the wood to a wonderful green grey color. It looks like yellow water going on and takes about three days to a week to turn the wood. It is a great sealer also. But I like to top this with a product called Penifin in the cedar color. This enhances the colors. I did my whole ceiling in the home I am building and everyone wants to know where I got the reclaimed beams! Like | 2Save
