Lust worthy pools!
Eco-friendly: These owners didn’t want an unsightly cover that would clutter up the surrounding decking whilst the pool was in use, and they were averse to the idea of a cover that was cumbersome and difficult to operate. A solution was found in the Cleardeck System, a thermal cover which retracts back through a narrow stainless steel strip in the decking. Marketed as the only "below the deck" system in the world, the Cleardeck Thermal cover saves 90% of water lost through evaporation, as well as reducing heating costs and chemical usage.
A custom pool in a narrow backyard with a pergola attached to the house and supported with boxed columns defines a cozy dining space at the poolside. Three sheer descent waterfalls pour from the face of the wall behind the pool, adding beauty to what would otherwise be a strictly functional retaining wall.
The Southeast corner of the lot stands 5'6" above the threshold of the rear door, while the Northeast corner dropped a full 2' below the threshold of the door. The backyard was also long and narrow, sloping side-to-side and toward the house. The key to the design concept was to deftly place the project into the slope and utilize the elevation changes, without allowing them to dominate the yard, or overwhelm the senses.

This suburban lot presented unique challenges with a deep drainage swale and municipal easement taking up the back half of the property. A long narrow pool next to the house was the only solution. It's ideal for fitness and lap swimming with a uniform depth of 5.5 ft. The swale was filled with river rock to create a dry streambed look while natural reed and swamp grass plantings add colour and contrast. (42 x 11, custom rectangular).
Mixing it up. Continuing the same vertical palings along the entire length of this long rear garden wall would only emphasise the narrow proportions of the space. Melbourne-based DDB Design thought so, too, so they broke it up with a section of square lattice panels with a row of pleached trees in front.
