Wistaston Garden

The clients wanted to make more use of their sizeable garden and a design had been drawn up. The proposed garden would be accessed from the existing decking via steps onto the new patio. This would in turn lead onto the lawn and a new path leading to a previously unused area of the garden. The patio was laid with sawn and polished Mountain Mist Indian Sandstone and pointed with Basalt Easyjoint compound. Three planting beds were constructed using new railway sleepers that also served as the step wing walls to access the rest of the garden. A timber edge path was built incorporating sleeper steps and dressed with Cotsold gravel. With a new base installed for a summerhouse, a concrete post and closeboard panel fence was erected to the boundary behind. The area at the bottom of the garden was made useable by laying bark chippings on membrane and erecting a low level slat fence to disguise an unsightly block wall that bordered a stream. The future intention is to install a bench in this area giving another view of the garden. A Western Red Cedar slatted screen was used as a backdrop for the newly installed hot tub meaning the project was nearing completion. The blockwork seating area on the patio was rendered and painted when the weather improved and the planters and beds stocked with plants in the spring.
