With clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, there’s a distinct resort feel to this home design, created to complement the sweeping coastal views and unique topography of our client’s City Beach block.
Designed to embrace the vistas and northern light, yet provide privacy from the street, this intelligent home will be a genuine sanctuary. Elevation is therefore the key theme within this highly bespoke project, both literally (all indoor and outdoor living and entertaining areas are on the top floor) and spiritually, with the sparkling pool and glass waterfall entry statement setting the tone for a home conceived to relax the mind and lift the spirits.
Desert Star Construction
This courtyard full of beautiful green grass, well trimmed bushes, and a gorgeous stone fountain is the perfect place for planning a picnic or simply taking in the view. Tall shady palms surround a sparkling pool and Mediterranean style pool house where a trellis covered patio provides an escape from the hot desert sun.

The extensive use of timber decking surrounding both the pool and spa harmonises seamlessly with the timber façade of the house; the natural wooden boards envelope the pool, giving the impression that the pool and the house emerged from the same organic structure.

Drewett Works
Believe it or not, this award-winning home began as a speculative project. Typically speculative projects involve a rather generic design that would appeal to many in a style that might be loved by the masses. But the project’s developer loved modern architecture and his personal residence was the first project designed by architect C.P. Drewett when Drewett Works launched in 2001. Together, the architect and developer envisioned a fictitious art collector who would one day purchase this stunning piece of desert modern architecture to showcase their magnificent collection.
The primary views from the site were southwest. Therefore, protecting the interior spaces from the southwest sun while making the primary views available was the greatest challenge. The views were very calculated and carefully managed. Every room needed to not only capture the vistas of the surrounding desert, but also provide viewing spaces for the potential collection to be housed within its walls.
The core of the material palette is utilitarian including exposed masonry and locally quarried cantera stone. An organic nature was added to the project through millwork selections including walnut and red gum veneers.
The eventual owners saw immediately that this could indeed become a home for them as well as their magnificent collection, of which pieces are loaned out to museums around the world. Their decision to purchase the home was based on the dimensions of one particular wall in the dining room which was EXACTLY large enough for one particular painting not yet displayed due to its size. The owners and this home were, as the saying goes, a perfect match!

Land & Water Design
A custom pool in a narrow backyard with a pergola attached to the house and supported with boxed columns defines a cozy dining space at the poolside. Three sheer descent waterfalls pour from the face of the wall behind the pool, adding beauty to what would otherwise be a strictly functional retaining wall. We even found a room at one end of the pool for a small outdoor grill island.

The swimming pool is an unusual shape and is raised above natural ground level, with a 360 degree wet-edge. Water flows over all six faces of the pool into a catchment gutter, which leads to a balance tank that is cleverly concealed under the adjacent decking. The house, pool, paving and decking were all designed to sit at different levels and as such, a high degree of precision and accuracy was required to ensure all of the levels were exactly as planned.
