Hard to believe this light and airy medical foot spa in Exeter, NH was formerly a dark and dreary fitness center. The space was gutted and underwent a complete renovation, transforming it into a bright and welcoming boutique business. In addition to designing a sophisticated, inviting interior, the commercial project required consideration of the heavy business traffic it would experience and the mandatory HIPAA and ADA standards required. An entry vestibule was added to set the tone and separate the space, but also to act as a barrier against the varied New England temperatures. A new fireplace in the waiting area creates a focal point for guests and further enhances the warm, welcoming feeling you get from the moment you step through the door. In addition to two private treatment rooms, a soaking room, and manicure and pedicure area, there is also a full kitchen for catering events and a sterilization room so the spa can adhere to medical grade standards of cleanliness. Capitalizing on the Seacoast location, we incorporated elements such as ship lap, rattan and light woods that have a slight nautical nod and included other natural materials and finishes to make the space feel calm and inviting, while also standing up to heavier commercial use. We integrated antique pieces into the design to bring character and warmth to the space, and decorative lighting and brass accents give the space a more residential feel. Display of retail was also a top priority and we used a mix of vintage pieces and new modern shelving to provide adequate display for goods. We worked hand in hand with the owners to understand their needs both functionally and aesthetically to create and design a space that was better than they imagined.
