Dedham Lodge - Exterior
Dedham Lodge was designed for a private client and is situated on edge of Dedham Vale near Ardleigh. Originally a small cottage was situated at the rear of a 3/4 acre plot. To overcome planning objections to vastly increasing the size of the dwelling, the new house was designed and planned to be built on the building line nearer to the road .
In accordance with the Client's wishes; the exterior was designed in the Georgian style but with a clean and clear open plan interior. To enable maximum room height throughout the house without breaching planning restrictions on the overall building height, I used 4 interlocking roofs that gave the illusion of a single roof. Between the roofs was a central well hiding a glass pyramid that flooded the double height hallway with natural light.
