Contemporary Garden Design, London

Contemporary Garden Design, London This Contemporary Garden Design was created to mirror the contemporary interior design, of this beautifully refurbished house in Eltham, London. The interior was bold in colour and style whilst being lots of fun. My client was lots of fun too, had lots of family and friends and loved to entertain between 8 for dinner to 16 for drinks, in the warm barmy London evenings. She agreed the existing karaoke stage at the end of the garden 'Had to Go' along with the rest of the 80s garden. Working closely with my client and her interior designer, we re-defined the outside space to include a brunch/breakfast area, dinning area, a contemporary Moroccan themed sunken chill pit, sun-bathing area, a built in shed (beneath the new raised deck) and no spiders please! Part of the this carefully orchestrated contemporary garden design brief was to pick-out the interior theme colours, which dictated a planting palette of pinks, oranges, limes and whites. To tie the space and colours together, I brought in a foil of white rendered walls to contrast and compliment the planting, whilst also bouncing light in and around this long north facing London garden design. Silver grey Indian sandstone was employed for depth, and as a grounding element, for the figure-of-eight lawn. Sleek wooden deck, with mitred edging detail, and balustrades, coupled with tensioned galvanised steel wires, finished of the contemporary feel, whilst mirroring the wooden flooring of the interior. Two internal bamboo light beds were introduced to bounce light back into the chill-pit below, whilst also bridging the height differentials between the upper deck and the 1.5m lower garden. White textured pots were strategically placed to obscure the client from neighbours and to act as focal points. The white, low, circular wall at the end of the garden, backed by a mini-copse of elegant white stemmed Birches, took both the eye and the client down to the end of the garden. When the sun-loungers come out in summer cocktails will most definitely be supped in the sun!
