Colonial w/ Craftsman Characteristics, West Newton, MA
This charming West Newton home had a three-season porch the owners wanted to transition into a new room. The 8’x26’porch was bolstered for support and a foundation was added with a crawlspace for storage.
The newly enclosed room now seamlessly fits in with the rest of the home. Five large windows line the front of the addition looking out onto the neighborhood and new wood floors were installed to match the existing wood floors in the home.
Off to the side, Kempton Construction built a half-bath and closet, which is accessed from the newly refinished entryway. The bathroom has custom wainscoting and a pocket door. The entire bathroom and entryway area has 6”x24” porcelain tile. Kempton Construction installed a custom fir front door that leads into a new entryway. The front porch was constructed with ipe wood throughout, a sustainably sourced rainforest tree. This included, strip boards, shadow boards, railings, balusters posts and vertical slats. A new crawl space entry door was constructed using reclaimed mahogany from the previously existing deck.
This new addition increased the functionality of the front room and entryway immensely for the homeowners.
This project also included plumbing and electrical improvements, as well as renovations to the front dormer, new siding, a new soffit and a new roof.
