New house - home office advice needed!

Hello -

We recently moved into a new house and are in the process of painting our home office which will primarily be used by me. I have attached pictures of the furniture that will be in the room and the room itself. It's a north facing room with a big window, so it does get natural light, just not a lot of "sun" light. Any suggestions on a refreshing color would be appreciated. I haven't purchased artwork, carpet or accessories yet as I want to paint first. Furniture is mid-century glass top desk and coordinating shelf. Sofa is a stone color. (Ignore the drapes, they will be replaced) Also, this room faces the street. I was considering putting shutters with 3 1/2 in louvers with drape panels on the sides. Thoughts? Thanks for any help you can offer!

Since paint can be mixed in (almost) any color, I'd recommend finding your artwork first to let it be the dominate inspiration for the room, then let your wall color be the support. Likewise, your drapes could be dominate or support depending on what you want to feature. It's much easier to bring those pieces into the room, and get a good sense of how the light works with those, then choose your wall color.

Since it’s a North facing room, I’d avoid glass desks that can be very cold looking and feeling. I’d opt for a warmer material

Hi Cristina, your table looks very beautiful however I discourage to have such furniture at home because of the mirrors. I work as a feng shui consultant and I know that the mirrors have some kind of power and one should be very carful placing them in the house. My personal opinion is to have a mirror in the place where the mirror can´t see you while you are resting or sleeping because in long term it can have negative influence on you. The mirror was created to look at it and it shouldn´t be used extensively also because of the reflections of the light. The human eye naturally is used to see the light coming from certain directions, if it comes from the direction which is not used to the light, especially artificial one, it may effect your vision or have negative influence on your mood. I'm talking about something very subtle which sometimes may be felt after some time. Another thing is that I always encourage people to don´t use repetitive patterns in the house just simple irregular forms and calm and worm colours which make the space more cozy and more natural. If you need more help with the rest of your house please let me know. I could make a 3d visualisation of your place to shaw the layout. Best \Marcin

Buenas noches gestión estética! Muchas gracias por tus comentarios e ideas aportadas, la verdad es que estamos muy ilusionados con el proyecto pero también es cierto que es una reforma de cierta envergadura por nuestra intención de actualizar y hacer más cómoda la vivienda (en la actualidad no cuenta ni con ducha!) pero a la vez intentar mantener los elementos estéticos de la época que le confieren el encanto que tiene al piso. Agradecemos cualquier asesoramiento ya que las reformas las emprenderemos nosotros mismos, sin ningún arquitecto o interiorista que lidere el proyecto, contrataremos directamente a los profesionales que han de ejecutar la obra, por lo que nos surgen muchas dudas de la mejor opción estética / económica / práctica en diversos elementos. Adjunto otro elemento en el que no llegamos encontrar la opción ideal, hay 2 salas que están separadas también por la misma marquetería que en el dormitorio y unos armarios a ambos lados. Nos gustan estéticamente (no en ese color quizás) pero seria más practico que las 2 salas no estuvieran separadas (una estaría destinada a comedor y la otra a sala de estar), por los que nos planteamos o eliminarlo todo (con dolor en el corazón) o una opción intermedia como vaciar solo la parte central, o la parte central y uno de los laterales. ¿Consejo? Por privado (si se puede hacer esto aquí) podría enviar plano completo del piso y más dudas que tenemos! Gracias!

Hi Marina ! I think you have a place that offers a lot of design opportunities. First of all, you would have to see the direction of the sun to locate the places of stay and plan the vegetation. The best thing is that you use vegetation that absorbs the rain and does not need great maintenance and irrigation to minimize the work due to the access it presents. I'm going to join in on the "warming" trend. Do you actually work from home? There is a difference from actually WORKING and working. If your work depends on it, then the room needs to be productive and comfortable. If it's not a full time job, then you have more options based on your preferences. It looks like a nice sized space.

If you are going to be doing Zoom meetings or anything where the wall behind you is in view, consider the color and decor for THAT wall to be especially important. Maybe a focal color as a good backdrop to shelves, artwork, or credentials.

Where did you get the sofa? I really like it and it looks to be about the right size and color for MY home office, lol so anything you can tell me about it would be appreciated!

If you spend hours on your feet daily as most people do, then you should consider making a switch to this standing desk. Many studies have demonstrated that prolonged sedentary behavior (SB) increases health risks. Try ergonomic home office furniture, it will be beneficial for your health and home office space.
