Is engineered flooring really any better than laminate?

Starting to veer towards laminate flooring for the dining room. It seems to be more practical and less high maintenance. Was looking at Kahrs for the engineered and quickstep for the laminate. Has anyone any experience of Kahrs and is engineered flooring worth it? The dining room is a thoroughfare and so it will have heavy traffic.

    Hi GJ Dee

Reading your post, it seems that you are more concerned about cleaning, maintenance and durability of the floor over the natural appearance.

In our opinion both options are fairly easy to clean. With regular vacuuming and occasional mopping using the right products (not too much water) they will both look great.

In terms of life, engineered wood flooring will greatly outlive laminate flooring. You can sand and finish engineered wood flooring a number of times during its lifetime due to the lamella (solid wood layer) which a laminate simply doesn't have.

We expect a engineered wood floor to last 2-3 times possibly longer than a laminate floor, but this is reflected in its cost.

Another alternative to laminate flooring would be Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) such as Moduleo or Karndean. Have you considered this?

We hope this information helps you. Please feel free to ask us any other questions you may have.
