What to do with this large wall?
Does anybody have any ideas what I can do with this blank canvas? I was hoping to put a large piece of art above the couch but now I'm wondering if it won't look right since the couch is off center from the peak in the ceiling. If I center the couch under the peak, then the couch is no longer in the center of the room and my end table will be off the carpet. I'm also not convinced that 1 piece of large artwork is going to do much to fill up that space.
While I appreciate a lot of great comments I get, can we please keep the focus on the wall? For every good comment I get from this site, I get a random comment about something totally unrelated (yes I already know that my coffee table is too small, my end tables too high, and my lamps don't match - it's a work in progress). And on that note if anyone has table suggestions I'll take those as well. Round, square, ottoman???
--The sofa has to stay in that spot, but it can be pulled forward some but I don't think I'd get much more than 2 feet of room behind it before the sofa starts blocking the fireplace
--Trying to stay budget friendly, so doing built-ins or any major project is not really in my budget at this time

(3) comentariosHi Cristina, your table looks very beautiful however I discourage to have such furniture at home because of the mirrors. I work as a feng shui consultant and I know that the mirrors have some kind of power and one should be very carful placing them in the house. My personal opinion is to have a mirror in the place where the mirror can´t see you while you are resting or sleeping because in long term it can have negative influence on you. The mirror was created to look at it and it shouldn´t be used extensively also because of the reflections of the light. The human eye naturally is used to see the light coming from certain directions, if it comes from the direction which is not used to the light, especially artificial one, it may effect your vision or have negative influence on your mood. I'm talking about something very subtle which sometimes may be felt after some time. Another thing is that I always encourage people to don´t use repetitive patterns in the house just simple irregular forms and calm and worm colours which make the space more cozy and more natural. Muchas gracias por tus comentarios e ideas aportadas, la verdad es que estamos muy ilusionados con el proyecto pero también es cierto que es una reforma de cierta envergadura por nuestra intención de actualizar y hacer más cómoda la vivienda (en la actualidad no cuenta ni con ducha!) pero a la vez intentar mantener los elementos estéticos de la época que le confieren el encanto que tiene al piso. Agradecemos cualquier asesoramiento ya que las reformas las emprenderemos nosotros mismos, sin ningún arquitecto o interiorista que lidere el proyecto, contrataremos directamente a los profesionales que han de ejecutar la obra, por lo que nos surgen muchas dudas de la mejor opción estética / económica / práctica en diversos elementos. Adjunto otro elemento en el que no llegamos encontrar la opción ideal, hay 2 salas que están separadas también por la misma marquetería que en el dormitorio y unos armarios a ambos lados. Nos gustan estéticamente (no en ese color quizás) pero seria más practico que las 2 salas no estuvieran separadas (una estaría destinada a comedor y la otra a sala de estar), por los que nos planteamos o eliminarlo todo (con dolor en el corazón) o una opción intermedia como vaciar solo la parte central, o la parte central y uno de los laterales. ¿Consejo? hace 6 añosSince the couch looks proportionately small in relation to the ceiling height I would look for something a little more free form ...rather than a large square piece of art ...perhaps a sculptural metal piece ...like branches and leaves...these things can be found in places like home goods ...are fairly well priced and can be expanded to the size you need by using more than one piece...some times they are too shiny or tacky looking but a coat of spray paint can bring them up a notch....I often find pieces at garage sales and use them in outdoor areas quite successfully

hace 6 añosWhat would help in terms of table suggestions? I do think I need a coffee table or ottoman to fill up some space but am a little worried about having too many bulky pieces. The sofa doesn't look very big, but it is 97" wide by 42" deep. Loveseat is adjacent and 70" wide. Side note, I am loving the round goldish table suggested above. This is another view.

I am planning to slowly purchase the remaining items I want, but in general I would say budget is 2,000 for tables and art. If I find something like an ottoman I absolutely love and is a little more pricey I would buy it and wait a little longer to upgrade the end tables. Sofa arm height is 25". I saw this ottoman that I like the idea of, but I think it's a little too narrow. Length is good though at 54 inches. I also found an interesting coffee table but it's too light and doesn't come in other colors.

hace 6 añosIf you keep the two sofas, a square table or ottoman is best. A solid, darker color would also help draw the eye down and ground your room better. I agree with ritasj that we decorate at 9' and below. Any sculpture that sits higher will just exacerbate the height without merit.
Something like this would add some interest and yet be large enough to serve both seating areas. Not sure about the layout in the room, so would need actual measurements to be sure.

hace 6 añosIs there a "walkway" from the hall then between the two sofas? If so, then you need one coffee table for the long sofa on the far wall and perhaps a C table for the other sofa.
In that case, I would get a coffee table that is about 2/3 the length of your sofa because you don't want to be banging your legs against a table when you walk through the space. The C tables come in all shapes, sizes, and styles and price ranges. Pier 1 has good deals on them when they are on sale.

hace 6 añosSo this would be the view you mentioned. And just for reference, I measured the coffee table distance. It's about 32" from both the loveseat and sofa. Coffee table size is 28x45. The tables are from my old set that will eventually go in the basement.

hace 6 añosOk, so I have been looking at wall art and am starting to narrow down what I like. I am not a big art person at all. I am leaning towards something canvas, maybe 60" wide (couch is 97"), abstract, but I am not sure on color. I can play it safe and go neutral.....or I am not opposed to the idea of throwing a big splash of color on the wall. Any input on some of these options below? Not super crazy about the purple flower one, but I do like the color if I could find another canvas.
