    This is a custom-designed-and-fabricated copper rain-screen system. With a bit of initial guidance from the contractor who built the DeYoung Museum, our company worked with this project's architect at Skeels Design to design, prototype, test, build, and install this bespoke system. The actual sheet-metal shop-fabrication work was done by NuStar Heating and Sheet Metal in San Francisco. Each copper sheet is laid up over a non-permeable core panel and is mounted in such a way as to provide an air gap between the panels and the substrate siding behind. Special concealed mounting hardware carries and aligns the panels. Each recessed niche has integrated LED lighting. A rain screen is arguably the closest thing to a perfect siding system, as it provides optimal thermal performance and weather protection and precludes the common problem of trapped moisture.
