Flooring - Karndean vs Amtico??

Hello, I live in a Victorian Terrace which is a complete renovation job. I have had my electrics replaced, walls skimmed, currently painting (will it ever end?!) but was hoping for advice on flooring. I have a narrow hallway, which leads into a dining room and then galley kitchen. The floorboards are beyond repair and I was hoping to put down Amtico or Karndean vinyl tiles. I want wide (oak style) planks, laid parallel to hallway, bevelled edges with the maximum wear layer. Both have long/ lifetime guarantees but all salesmen seem to be incapable of telling me what this covers - scratches from furniture - no, stiletto heels - no, unruly kids - no. I don't have kids but do have a dog and hence wanting a floor I can keep clean easily. I'm also worried about scratches from dog claws. I plan on going through a specialist retailer/ fitter rather then buying on the internet (too chicken). I'm led to believe that Amtico and Karndean do add value (?) but I'm doing this for me rather then as an investment, but I am nervous about the cost. Can anyone please help with how they wear, guarantees and any advice at all? Many thanks.

Ask for a written copy of their T&C's relevant for the garentee's for the Amtico and Karndean products. That is a reasonable request ! The paperwork should tell you categorically what is and what isn't covered !
    Hope that helps !

Thanks One Plan - good idea. I suppose I was hoping to get real life examples (of good or bad wear) but maybe I'm over thinking/ worrying too much.

I have had karndean in previous house. Went for wood style planking also in kitchen, conservatory, utility and toilet. Held up well to wear and tear with 3 dogs. Laid on top of concrete and tiled floor. Used fitter not online highly recommend product. In current (Victorian) house not yet used as have good floors but needs boarding out over wood flooring - extra cost presume.

theres no discernible different in quality as such = amtico is more ££ than karndean, it all depends on what colour, look, range you fall for - but in terms of usage they will both wear equally well for normal family living and you shouldn't look at one being 'better' than the other. but so saying, check the guarantees and make sure you are happy with what is being offered. the fitter is important. If its not fit right, then any issue you will have is down to this, not the product. we fit this week in and week out for our customers and never any complaints, I personally have had dog and 2 kids riding tractors etc toys over it and it wears up better than anything else I know. plus if you drop a plate on it, you may be lucky. if its a tiled floor, that's the end of the plate!

I have a similar product which had a different laying system put in about 9 years ago and it is great. Dogs mud etc As this product is no longer available in UK I am now putting Amtico down in another room. My main problem has been that the floor is concrete with no foundations or damp proof course due to age of property. I don't get damp but the vinyl tiles will seal even a small amount so I am having to have a DPC painted on first. Hence the other system previously it was not entirely sealed like Amtico and Karndean. So it is the laying that is costing me even more than usual and that is not cheap. I have found little difference in price between Amtico Spacia and Karndean at the better quality end of their range. So it is colour match that has driven my decision. What I have been confused with is Karndean guarantee. Some say 15 years for domestic use but a very reputable supplier tells me it is now 35 years across the range. Amtico is clear for the cheaper Spacia range it is 25 years. I know both products will tolerate hard wear as they are in use in so many shops & restaurents.
