What should I do with this huge wall?!

Hi! I would like to tackle this big wall, which opens up on the kitchen/living room. I definitely want to remove the mirror. I was thinking of doing a photo wall (not on shelves) but I'm not sure what to add under it as furniture like a buffet perhaps? Not sure how big to go either. The dimensions of the wall are 171" wide by 85" high. Any help would be appreciated!! :)

I've never seen a wall with so many functionality items inserted on a wall lol! These have to be considered, so I'm not sure if a wall to wall unit can be accommodated or furniture that will cover the return. I also think it's too large of a wall for photos unless you are just adding over a console for example. I would use a long open based table and if you search on Houzz photos for long console tables, you may get some inspiration. I really like the table in the first picture; it's a bit rustic but not too much and adding art/lamps will really make that wall a focal wall.

Hi Cristina, your table looks very beautiful however I discourage to have such furniture at home because of the mirrors. I work as a feng shui consultant and I know that the mirrors have some kind of power and one should be very carful placing them in the house. My personal opinion is to have a mirror in the place where the mirror can´t see you while you are resting or sleeping because in long term it can have negative influence on you. The mirror was created to look at it and it shouldn´t be used extensively also because of the reflections of the light. The human eye naturally is used to see the light coming from certain directions, if it comes from the direction which is not used to the light, especially artificial one, it may effect your vision or have negative influence on your mood. I'm talking about something very subtle which sometimes may be felt after some time. Another thing is that I always encourage people to don´t use repetitive patterns in the house just simple irregular forms and calm and worm colours which make the space more cozy and more natural. If you need more help with the rest of your house please let me know. I could make a 3d visualisation of your place to shaw the layout. Best \Marcin

Hola MONICA: Gracias por explicarte. Si no te obstinas por poner fotos tuyas variadas y pequeñás, puedes encargar un vinilo autadhesivo, con una imagen de la más alta definición, que haga tu instrumento, o comprar alguna en un banco de imágenes. Procuras que la parte alta izquierda sea lo más neutra posible y pegas la imagen sobre el paramento completo, incluso sobre el frente del split. El resto, puedes hasta pintarlo a spray del color que requiera, para camuflarse mejor.

Hi guys I found this nice floor tile that has like a blue marine tone to it with some irregular small stone shapes but I can’t find something to combine it with, like what kind of wall tile should I use, since the floor tile has some details. It’s for a bathroom renovation, the bathroom has 6 square meters.

Buenas noches gestión estética! Muchas gracias por tus comentarios e ideas aportadas, la verdad es que estamos muy ilusionados con el proyecto pero también es cierto que es una reforma de cierta envergadura por nuestra intención de actualizar y hacer más cómoda la vivienda (en la actualidad no cuenta ni con ducha!) pero a la vez intentar mantener los elementos estéticos de la época que le confieren el encanto que tiene al piso. Agradecemos cualquier asesoramiento ya que las reformas las emprenderemos nosotros mismos, sin ningún arquitecto o interiorista que lidere el proyecto, contrataremos directamente a los profesionales que han de ejecutar la obra, por lo que nos surgen muchas dudas de la mejor opción estética / económica / práctica en diversos elementos. Adjunto otro elemento en el que no llegamos encontrar la opción ideal, hay 2 salas que están separadas también por la misma marquetería que en el dormitorio y unos armarios a ambos lados. Nos gustan estéticamente (no en ese color quizás) pero seria más practico que las 2 salas no estuvieran separadas (una estaría destinada a comedor y la otra a sala de estar), por los que nos planteamos o eliminarlo todo (con dolor en el corazón) o una opción intermedia como vaciar solo la parte central, o la parte central y uno de los laterales. ¿Consejo? Por privado (si se puede hacer esto aquí) podría enviar plano completo del piso y más dudas que tenemos! Gracias!

@Maureen, thank you the pictures are actually quite helpful!! I think I understand when you say tons of small photos would be too much. So perhaps I'll do a few bigger ones instead. That being said I'm not sure if the same frames/mat/color would work? I'm scared it could look too contemporary? Maybe I'm confusing things... I think I'd like to have furniture under the photos..

You can absolutely hang photos without making the space feel too contemporary, especially if you're thinking of family photos. We've had patrons from all design camps! Agree with everyone; it is a large space, stick with bigger prints. You can do a gallery wall that is a mix of photos/rustic items.

Art is always such a personal choice. I think you're set on a photo wall above a credenza, and that sounds great, but if you decide to look for a large artwork, we create ours bespoke to the size you need - large enough even for your huge wall!

@Chris Zec Photography, thank you!! It's true I would really like a family photo wall... So I agree, bigger prints will look better, and I'd like a mix of photos and rustic items!
However I'm not sure between a credenza and console table.... Maybe the air return creates a problem?

Don't know how young/old your kids are, but I loved the idea in the Elle article about mixing in some of their artwork! One thing to mix in that I don't think I saw in the article that fits your décor is low-profile baskets. I love the mix of black and white photography with natural wood. The black and white will bring cohesiveness to the collection (you can then also mix in other photos...botanicals, scapes etc.) and the wood (doesn't have to all match) keeps it from getting too austere/modern.

I would be careful about covering the register especially as you don't want to have furniture pulled away from the wall in a high traffic area. I'd go with the console/open legs. Good to have something, though, to keep everyone from bumping into your photos. :)

Thanks @susan2494!! I know lol... It's difficult for me! Although I love art, I have difficult choosing it for my home. There's some things I know I like and go for instead : wood, candles, dried flowers, vases, wicker (or banana leaf or rafia...), etc... I'll try to find art that I like and post it!

Why not? Usually people unify different prints with frames, but if you're willing to do black and white photos for cohesiveness, then you have room to play with the frames. I just wouldn't have too many different color frames. It will visually chop up the arrangement...especially with fewer large prints. Try sketching it out with colored pencils. Yes, probably better to know the size of the furniture first. Much easier to rearrange gallery wall than modify the furniture.;)

NOw that you said this I'm not sure I want black and white photos with coloured frames... Perhaps coloured photos with coloured frames? While I live black and white photos, I'm not sure it would project the look I'm looking for... Hmmm.

Sorry, missed your question until now. A basket that's more tray-shaped so it would be flatter to the wall instead of jutting way out. It would be a way of incorporating your love of woven things. Not sure where you live, but I have a long-needle pine basket from NC on my dining room wall. But you could find small accent baskets anywhere. Signing off for the night...have enjoyed chatting. OK, one more so we can sleep...:) Do what you love. If it's color photos, then definitely aim for more unity with the frames rather than different colors. Especially family photos...everyone wearing different colors etc.

This is a before and after from a project I worked on in CT. We supplied the prints and the designer framed them. You can see there are different frames (some the same), but they were all the same wood finish even though size and texture varied. You can do a Google search for gallery wall templates and you'll get plenty of configurations to help you along. Been a pleasure!

Here are just a few more ideas of what to put over your console table. You can do one of these in a large size, or mix a smaller size in with photos and other art.

@Sunny, you can use the same idea with lots of different materials. If you use a floating shelf, you won't block any vents or outlets. Because it's such a long wall, you might want to check out RH (Restoration Hardware has rebranded) which has consoles up to 100 inches long, to help fill the wall.

@Chris Zec: On the website (not the app), when you type in a comment, there are gray buttons below the comment box. The one marked "Photo" will allow you to upload from your computer.

When you open the one marked "Houzz Photo" there are 3 different tabs so you can include photos from houzz in your comment. What I do is open 2 sessions of houzz at the same time. One is where I'm commenting, and the other is so I can grab URL's of relevant photos.

Thank you, orange! I can see how to do it; nothing was happening when I did it! Strange...as I said, no prob attaching photos I already have uploaded to Houzz, just can't attach anything form my computer. Hoping it goes away soon. If not, I'll be a squeaky wheel on Support...they really are very helpful. Can't tag names in discussions either. The @ sign comes up just that way...never turns into a tag. Good suggestion on the two tabs. I usually do that on FB as well. Thank you for your kindness.

@Chris, glad to help. On houzz, the @ sign doesn't "do" anything except make it easier to find usernames in responses. My trick for that, if there are too many responses for me to weed through to see if someone's responding to me, is to do a search for my name on the page. It's not an elegant solution, but it works :)
