Finding what inspires. Ever since Jim was a child, his two greatest interests have been designing and building things. “Once I completed design school, I started working in the corporate field and found myself drifting further away from my core love for designing,” he says. “So I decided to make a career change and started my own renovation company.” After spending a year doing general home upgrades, he realized that he enjoyed cabinetry projects the most and decided to specialize in kitchens and related cabinetry.
Minimizing disruption. Jim and his team take on one project at a time to meet every milestone, execute the agreed-upon plan and provide the highest standard of work. “When we walk into the home of a new client, one of the first questions we ask is ‘Why? Why are you doing this and what are you trying to achieve?’ ” he says. “Sometimes it’s as easy as just improving the aesthetics of the kitchen and at other times it’s about trying to squeeze in as much storage space as we can to improve the functionality of the kitchen.”

1. Reface Your Cabinets for a New Look
Your kitchen cabinets may look tired or out of date even if they’re structurally sound. “Refacing is a great first step for a budget-conscious kitchen renovation,” Jim says. “By installing new doors and drawer fronts, your kitchen will look and feel brand-new and raise the value of your home.”
In this Milton kitchen, Jim’s team added sleek white cabinet doors with bronze hardware for an upscale look. “We’re not interested in quick and cheap fixes,” he says. “Everything we do we want to last so that we’re offering the best value for our customers’ dollar.”

2. Add Pot Drawers to Increase Storage
It’s more or less a given that homeowners can always use more storage. “Most clients’ major complaint is that all their belongings end up sitting out on the countertop, but they only have so many square feet and don’t want to encroach on their living space,” Jim says.
As he did with this Milton kitchen, Jim first checks in on the cabinetry. “Lower cabinets with doors can be converted into pot drawers, which can store three times as many items,” he says. “We want to make sure we’ve squeezed out and optimized every square inch of cabinet space.”

3. Bifold Doors Are Your Best Bet
To increase storage, many homeowners are drawn to “magic corners” with slide-out mechanisms. “Counterintuitively, the mechanisms required for movable shelves like that actually take up a lot of storage space,” Jim says. Instead, he recommends bifold cabinet doors that fit into the L-shaped corners of your kitchen, as seen in this Milton home.
“There’s a somewhat polarized relationship between access and storage,” Jim says. “The older you get, the less inclined you are to dig through a lower cabinet, but you also probably need less storage.” With many homeowners making investments in the long-term life of their home, Jim guides his clients through their current and future needs.
