“Tom Phenicie is a high integrity person, and this is the primary reason I hired him to build my home and every project needed at rental and commercial properties I own. I do not shop on competitive bids for my projects because there really are no competitors to Tom. Materials cost what they do regardless of the contractor so the only difference possible is the person on the job. My primary residence recently appraised at over 1 million, a 60% appreciation in 12 years! Quality that stands the test of time is why Tom is currently estimating a second recreational home in a neighboring state for my wife and I. “I hired Bill Tyler Homes for two projects: First, Mr. Tyler carried out a $600,000 renovation of our farmhouse. This was a difficult task because the original home was built in the 1780s, then expanded and renovated in the 1980s, and then we further expanded and renovated it. He converted the garage into a play room with fireplace, and then added a glass enclosed breezeway connecting to a new two car garage with apartment on top, work room off back, and electric car charger. He also added a screened porch off the new play room, a new glassed in sun room off the living room, expanded a bathroom, added dormers to a bedroom, and expanded our front porch into a wraparound porch. As for utilities, he added a geothermal heating/cooling system to the house and enhanced the HVAC system so that heat/cool would better reach the master bedroom in the back of the house. Finally, he replaced our cedar shake roof with a metal seam roof. Mr. Tyler was a consummate professional from beginning to end of the process. First, he assessed the project based on our preliminary plans and gave us a budget that he hit almost exactly, which was a near miracle given the multiple components, age of the house, etc. Second, he retained and managed all the trades that worked on the project. Third, he managed to help pick materials and elements that were of high quality but reasonably priced, and also consistent with the character of the house. Finally, he completed the entire project within a short time frame. Tyler was easy to communicate with, listed to us, and built our dream house. Mr. Tyler's second project for us was the construction of a $700,000 farm winery (including a $90,000 solar array). We hired him to do the project based on the success and ease of the house project. He performed at the same highest quality on this project as the first. My wife and I worked for several months to sketch out on graph paper a barn structure that consisted of two interconnected barns, a shed, and a crush pad. The building was roughly 105 feet long and 50 feet wide with ceiling heights of 16 feet in the production and barrel rooms, 12 feet in the case room, and about 8 feet in the tasting room, lab/office, and bathroom. Tyler took our graph paper sketch to an engineer and had the entire project designed without the use of an architect. He worked hand in glove with us on selection of every element, from the metal seam roof, the hardiboard external siding, the concrete floors, the drain system, and the stone floors in the tasting room, etc. He also retained great contractors who executed on a series of complex components, including the need for single phase and three phase electric plugs for various pieces of equipment (press, pump, steam cleaner, electric forklift, etc), a large glycol cooling unit and piping system that was used to temperature control the rooms and the individual tanks, and a large 30kw solar array on the roof. As a final challenge, Mr. Tyler helped coordinate the installation of five 800 gallon tanks, two 500 gallon tanks, and the other equipment. The electrical on the project was particularly challenging, as was the drain system, but Mr. Tyler implemented them perfectly. Mr. Tyler was at the site daily to oversee and manage the construction of every phase of the project. It turned out to be the perfect building for our winery operation. As with the house, after we gave him the sketch, he prepared a detailed budget, and then proceeded once again to hit it almost exactly, which was again amazing. In addition to being a top quality builder, Mr. Tyler is an absolutely trustworthy and honest individual. We offer him our highest recommendation.”

“We bought a fixer-upper, modular, 60's-style brick-front ranch home 3 1/2 years ago in a location we loved. We wanted to make it look more contemporary and open up the chopped-up floor plan. This involved removing the wall where the 2 module halves were joined - scary stuff. We needed someone who knew modular homes, could do design work and had a lot of general building experience. Short Hill seemed uniquely qualified, and we clicked immediately when we met with the owner, Chuck. He designed an excellent plan using beams. The CAD computer system showed us what it would look like, which is important when gutting your house and redesigning from the studs out! Gutting and rebuilding the living end of the house took 6 weeks. They stayed on time and within budget, created the unique features we wanted, respected our pets and kept the house as clean as possible, It was a great experience! So great, in fact, that we went on to remodel most of the house with them in 4 phases (Living area, sunroom conversion from a porch, master bath and full exterior). Budget was always important and they always respected that. We always got high quality work, unique features and more than our money's worth. The house is a showplace now - barely recognizable from the original. And it is incredibly functional because we had it designed to fit our specific needs. They always went way above and beyond to make sure we were happy. They added a temporary door to the hallway to keep the cats out of trouble and isolate them from the chaos. They hooked my washer/dryer back up every weekend so I could avoid the Laundromat for 6 weeks! The people at Short Hill are the best. Highly skilled, picky about the details (like us!), ethical and very friendly and pleasant. We highly recommend them. We hear horror stories from friends about contractors and are so glad we found Short Hill.”
