BellFerro Ironworks

When we moved into our home almost 15 years ago, the railings were terrible so we unbolted them and threw them in the garbage. Recently, we realized that we needed to replace the missing railings and started looking for someone local to manufacture them. We started to look on line and found BellFerro Ironworks. They are a local business and so we thought we would give them a call. Peter was excellent to speak with and extremely professional. He came to look at what we wanted and offered different design and colour options. We ended up going with his recommendation. When he came to install them, there was an issue with one of the railing sections. He took it back and made the necessary changes to correct the concern. From start to finish less than 3 weeks! Great service and an excellent product. We did not shop around as Peter did not give a reason to.

Bellferro was one of three ironworks companies I contacted through their respective websites. I was interested in getting estimates for ballusters/spindles/pickets that I was going to incorporate into a wooden railing system I was building. Bellferro (Peter Botezatu) responded to my enquiry very quickly, and in fact was the only one of the three companies to respond. An exchange of emails and one phone conversation resulted in me being quoted a price that I thought was fair and I agreed to proceed. I visited Peter’s shop, which was really only a garage like structure out of which he did his work and we went over the details and a deposit was left. There was no written order nor did I sign any written order. In fact, when asked if we could pay the deposit with a cheque, he stated something to the effect … so you want an order. Deposit was subsequently paid in cash. Peter left me a voice message the following afternoon stating that the pickets were ready. I returned the call the following day and arranged to pick up the pickets at the shop where he was having them powder coated. I did so and paid the balance owing in cash. Once home my wife and I took a closer look at the 24 pickets and were quite disappointed with the finish. While they were what we had ordered, the welds holding the “knuckle” (a decorative piece attached to the picket) on the 12 pickets that had it installed were sloppily done. The welds resembled a piece of gum that had been balled up and left on the pickets. They were not ground down or smoothed out in any manner whatsoever. Hardly a job that I would think a professional would be proud to call their work. I left Peter a voice message expressing my displeasure but never did hear back from him. We were nearing the end of a drawn-out reno and its endless chain of choices and decisions. Pickets and rails, no matter the style, were all beginning to look a bit like prison bars…. when a half-hearted search of the internet brought us to BellFerro Ironworks and … there is was. Beautiful work, here in Canada, not far from home. The enthusiasm of artist/owner Peter Botezatu not only revived our spirits, it combined with his craftsmanship and diligence to design and produce a piece of custom artwork that helped us finish off our project with the same joy with which it had begun.
