Wagner Roofing Company has been preserving and restoring the Washington, DC and surrounding Mid Atlantic area’s most beloved buildings and homes since 1914. With award-winning craftsmanship, Wagner specializes in slate and custom sheet metal projects with an in-house state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication facility and warehouse headquartered in Hyattsville, MD. With experience working directly with building owners as well as in partnership with general contractors Wagner excels on projects that range from small specialty residential work to larger, more complex, governmental, and institutional projects. The company consists of upwards of 60 full-time staff split between specialty trade, field, and administrative personnel. With a unique focus on historic preservation and restoration, we strive to provide our extensive experience working with local and city historic boards, state historic offices of preservation as well as numerous other preservation-based organizations. To accommodate the intricate craftsmanship required of many of these jobs we conduct continual training through our in-house workshop to keep our skilled artisans at the top of our trade. Our employees are skilled in the application of slate, tile, metal, cedar shakes, and all other types of roofing systems. In addition to restoration and re-roofing work, Wagner also provides high-quality exterior maintenance and repair services for the rest of your home's exterior.

Chimney repair

Although we have lived in our house 10 years, we never have understood the cause of damp walls around our basement fireplace and the occasional bat or bird in the house. Wagner Roofing diagnosed our issues immediately after investigating our roof, and found that we were missing a chimney cover. They fabricated one, installed it and repaired the surrounding area. The technicians were polite, respectful and knowledgeable. We felt like we were in very experienced hands and had an extremely positive experience. We will definitely use Wagner Roofing again and would highly recommend them.

We interviewed perhaps 8 different roofing companies for work on our Wardman corner townhouse in DC, and Wagner was the clear leader for the work we needed -- putting a TPO flat roof on our house (above a slate mansard edge). In fact, a number of the others came over and said, "Umm, no, we can't do this. Try Wagner." We worked with Sam Nicolette at the office, who couldn't have stayed more on top of our job and on communication (sometimes multiple times a day) with us. The house is 100 years old, with multiple skylights punched through the roof, and it shares a party wall (and roof) with our neighbor. Intricate scaffolding went up, the men worked incredibly hard and were careful of our yard. They carefully peeled off the degraded roof (and bazillion patches) and surveyed for damage/rot/termites to the wooden structure underneath (thankfully there was none) and then recreated the roof, taking special care around the various (4!) skylights. Sam and the foreman even handled the difficult challenges raised by having to do only "half" a roof, as the neighbor's house took up half the flat roof (and was a different surface). The copper flashing work was beautifully done. While the work wasn't cheap, the work was worth the cost. Give Sam a call. He and Wagner are great.

Federal Hill Kitchen, Bath & Closet

My home was built in 1923 and had its original slate roof. I have been nursing it along for the last 15 years. I first contacted Dean of Wagner in the spring of 2018 re an estimate. They responded quickly with a detailed written estimate. Scheduling the work was easy and they began work when agreed upon. There crew was professional and experienced the work site was clean and protective of the house and gardens. I was impressed with the speed they removed my old roof and installed the new. Before the week was over I had a beautiful new slate roof with no damage to my lawn, gardens or home. I was impressed with every person in the organization and would therefore recommend them highly.

Value and excellence. After the initial estimate and hire for the job, the folks at Wagner came out and within 2 days completely replaced my 20+’year old roof. No issues since completion and a completely professional crew.
